I have worked with Thomas a few times, and every time he amazes me with his production and mixing. He goes above and beyond to make everything sound just how you would like. He knows how to make the song cohesive, and deliver the feel and emotion. On this song he produced/mixed for me, I gave him an idea of where I wanted the song to go and he took it to a level I never thought the song could reach. He is so talented and so great to work with. I can't wait to work with him again. Thanks Thomas!

What can I say about Thomas? This is the second time I've worked with Thomas and I feel his understanding of the requirement is second to none! I presented him with an idea for a remixed idea on a previous production and 3 days later he was back to me with a perfect mix. Madness! I feel Thomas is so easy to get along with and will bring your ideas to life! Will be coming back to Thomas again, and again, and again!!

Thomas was absolutely spot on! I came to Thomas with an idea in my head, that was only described to him through text. Magically Thomas created the exact song that I was hoping for and even went the extra mile to make sure it was 100% the song I wanted. He cut no corners, and he is so easy to get along with. We vibed from the second we first spoke. For reference, my job was a Christmas song, and he fulfilled it perfectly.

Interview with Thomas K
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: If you're looking to engage your audience and want to work on a production with strong hooks and great melodies, I'm your man. I'm super honest but always considerate in the hunt for optimal song shine.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: A laptop, audio interface, mixing headphones, a fender telecaster, a 1000 tb HD and a device to connect to the internet. That's 6 pieces btw ;)
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Melodic. With an emphasis on catchiness and feeling.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Martin Garrix, Zedd, Max Martin, Timbaland. They've reached peak understanding of the dynamic between melody, sound color, rhythm and song structure. It's what I always look for and teamwork helps finding that sweet spot.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: To tailor my craft to the client's wishes. I like to bring a sense of richness and catchiness into a production, how far I take it depends on the client. Melody, song structure and balance help to find the right emotional impact.
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: After working on solo projects and ad music for years to hone my skills, the first collaboration I initiated as Kalkovich was a cover of This Is The Life that went to over 20 million streams (on all platforms) within a year. Together with LittleKings I worked on the song to give it the right vibe, ear candy and additional synth and guitar melodies, layers, mixing balance and structure. All major labels made offers, we went with Universal/Republic.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Originals and covers for my project Kalkovich and other artists.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Tim Riehm (amazing voice, amazing attitude, amazing skills, fast communication), OIJ (sweet guy, amazing skills, very talented, amazing attitude)
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Depends. Whatever works best to achieve optimal feeling.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: Nothing but the best sounding production. My very best to meet your needs. Service aimed & detailed communication.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I get to indulge myself with music every day, and the sense of freedom it brings
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Varies. My answer is always yes :)
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That it's about technical skills or gear.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What audience do you want to engage, what mixing style do you prefer (with the help of references), what kind of sounds do you love, what songs do you hold in high regard, what are you aiming for with this production. What do you expect from me.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I'm a full time producer for 10 years now. Before that I was a highly trained drummer and played hundreds of shows. I quit that to become a producer/artist; started doing ad music to support myself and learn the craft. I wanted to be able to work with all sound colours and cultivate a sense of melody and feeling.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Learn to listen to your feeling; take breaks. Come back. Listen again. Adjust project for maximum emotional impact. The difference can be in the pronunciation of a vowel from another take.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Pop, EDM, alt pop, dance, rock
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Inspiration & feeling
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Together with the client I narrow down a few references. I start working on the production to get the sounds right. Most important thing in the process, is taking a step back and 'feel out' what you're working on.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Very simple and in the box. Not a gear freak.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Max Martin. Timbaland. Stargate. Martin Garrix. Porter Robinson. Petit Biscuit.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Bringing out the right feeling for the track. Every element has to work in favour of the listener's experience.
