Nicolás Ojeda, bass and double bass player from Buenos Aires, Argentina. Always enjoy collaborating in diverse music genres, I'm open minded to use different sounds and techniques to adapt the requirements of your song

Hi there, I´m Nicolás Ojeda, bass and double bass player from Buenos Aires, Argentina. I´ve been in music for over 35 years. The last 15 years I´ve been developing my soloist career as a composer in a contemporary jazz set, with four edited Albums that can be found on every streaming platform; simultaneously I took part of a wide range of other projects as member or guest, sessionist, producer, music designer for documentaries, movies and performances as well as teaching.
I enjoy collaborating in diverse music genres and, although my instrument is normally linked to jazz, tango or classical I like to use it in other unusual styles (funk, drum´n´bass, ambient, progressive rock, experimental, among others) Take a look at my samples.
I love searching for the appropriate sound for each piece and I'm open minded to use different sounds and techniques in order to adapt to the requirements of the song. I have a 4 string jazz bass (modern or vintage sound, with flat strings if you´re looking for a Motown sound or round if you´re seeking a modern touch) I also have a very singin' and warm 5 strings fretless bass and an old beautiful upright bass.
Fingerstyle, bow (upright), slap, pick, effects, loops or just editing experiments of any kind, I'm genuinely open to experiment and search for what you need. Grooves, solos, melodies or just ambient efx!

Nico is just great. He managed to capture the spirit of the composition, and recorded every note to enhance the song. Technically he is a high level musician, but he is also very sensitive and has a taste for every arrangement. It helps if he is a good producer as well as a bass player. In conclusion you can't lose with Nico, we will definitely keep working on new projects with him.

Very good bass player. I asked Nicolas to play upright bass on my track and he did a great job. He even supplied me with lots of different takes. Will be using him again. Thanks Nicolas.

Nicolas is a bass genius! He gave us a ton of options to choose from which had a big variety of unique ideas. He delivered us drafts and the finals within 2 days and he completely brought his identity into the song perfectly! I definitely recommend him if you're looking for a great improviser, with a beautiful bass sound. Looking forward to work with him again very soon !

Interview with Nicolas Ojeda

  1. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  2. A: Ger Lema (piano organ and keys, and arrang.), Matias Menarguez (drums), LeonPro (drums)

  3. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  4. A: You will not be disappointed

  5. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  6. A: Connect with people around the world and play types of music that are rare in my country, also to work comfortably and fast from my home :)

  7. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  8. A: I usually ask for a some kind of chart but is not important if is not, then if is necessary some indications that they imagine and want me to do

  9. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  10. A: Be respectful and attentive to communication (mails), also listen the audio samples in the profile page to have and very good idea of what I have to offer

  11. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  12. A: More than 35 years... I started studying guitar and bass in 1989 and in 1990 I started studying double bass. I studied classical guitar at a conservatory, double bass at a jazz school (EMPA) and bass with the great Guillermo Vadalá, I had more teachers as well of course. I was working in the R&B-Funk scene in the 90s, then I returned to Upright and dedicated myself more to modern jazz. I have 4 albums as a soloist and a career as a soloist and accompanist.

  13. Q: How would you describe your style?

  14. A: I'm very eclectic... I play mostly Upright bass so that leeds me to acoustic-jazz oriented music, but I first came from playing R&B, Funk.. and also Experimetal music, so i think my style is a mix of all the music that I like, also I would have liked to be a singer so I like to sing with the bass ;)

  15. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  16. A: Always record a bonus version of a very clean and simple track, so they have that option when the song is full of other instruments, because you usually have a rough version to listen to and it might be very full of stuff later...

  17. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  18. A: Here (this platform) they ask me to record jazz, modern jazz and accompaniment of singers's songs mostly, but sometimes some pop too

  19. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  20. A: sound and phrasing

  21. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  22. A: I always try to enjoy what I do, so that translate to the playing. Also, sometimes when I'm recording I come up with extra things that I usually send as a bonus

  23. Q: What's your typical work process?

  24. A: When they contact me, I first listen to the music, evaluate options and make a proposal. Normally it doesn't take more than 2 or 3 days and if necessary modifications are made to what I send. I also like to try different versions and send them all so they can use the one they prefer and have more material to work with.

  25. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  26. A: Is simple but effective, they always like the sound that I achieve. I have a Native Instruments Audio interface, 3 condencers (1 Rode and 2 XML), Tc electronics pre-amp, Protools and Reaper DAW. An old beatiful 3/4 Doublebass, a 5 string author's fretless and a 4 str jazzbass

  27. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  28. A: From Jaco... Eddie Gomez... to Tony Levin to Pino Palladino, Mingus or Sting, I was influenced by many

  29. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  30. A: Generally they ask me to record double bass or fretless (grooves and solos), but I love to do everything, also pop, funk or electronic grooves.
