With over a decade in the industry, I’ve mixed, produced, and contributed to records for Grammy-nominated artists including Che Ecru, Ye Ali, and others. My work and time across North America — from Toronto to LA and Miami — shaped how I hear, create, and refine sound. As an artist first, I find beauty in the demo. Less is more. Raw yet refined.

With over a decade in the industry, I’ve mixed, produced, and contributed to records for Grammy-nominated artists including Che Ecru, Ye Ali, and others. My time working across Toronto, LA, and Miami shaped how I hear, create, and refine sound—before returning to Melbourne with a fully formed, instinct-led approach.

In December 2025, I attended the Bainz Mix With The Masters masterclass at Rue Boyer Studio, Paris, spending time in-session observing and learning directly from Bainz’s mixing process inside a world-class studio environment.

Every project is different, so my approach changes with it.

My goal is to serve the song. Sometimes that means making bold decisions, and sometimes it means getting out of the way. Either way, the feeling always comes first.

Interview with Ryan Cruise

Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: One record I’m especially proud of is Peaceful Place. I recorded and mixed it in a short amount of time, and it all came together naturally. It’s one of those records that reminded me not to overthink the process.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Q: How do you get your mixes to sound so clean yet still feel raw? A: It’s about restraint and intent. I don’t overprocess — I listen for what makes the record breathe. Every sound should serve the story.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I’ve spent over 15 years in the creative industry, moving through design, marketing, and music. I began as a designer before diving deep into production and mix engineering, working across Toronto, LA, and Melbourne. Along the way, I built and led award-winning campaigns for global brands, then merged everything I’d learned into amercei.studio® — a creative ecosystem bridging music, design, and storytelling. Today, I bring that same cross-disciplinary precision and instinct to every record I touch.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Finishing up my upcoming project: R1.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: People think mixing is science — it’s really storytelling. It’s about knowing when to let silence speak, when to push emotion forward, and when to stay invisible.

A: Less is more.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I specialize in contemporary R&B, alternative, and genres that push creative boundaries. However, I’m versatile and enjoy working on any project with an authentic story or sound.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Assisting the artist in making tasteful creative decisions.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Every record ends up sounding different because every artist is different. My role is to understand what makes a song unique and bring that out—whether that’s through the production, the mix, or the small decisions that most people never notice but always feel.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: It usually starts with a conversation. I want to understand what the record is trying to say before we touch anything. From there, we shape the production, find the right sounds, and build a direction that feels honest to the artist. Once the foundation’s there, it’s about refining the details and making sure everything supports the emotion of the song. I like to keep the process collaborative and focused, so every decision moves the record closer to where it’s meant to be.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Casa X is a hybrid studio that combines analogue pieces with a modern digital workflow. Everything’s been chosen over time to support the way I make records—from production through to mixing. It’s a simple setup with the flexibility to move quickly, while still getting the depth and character I want.
