Interview with João André

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I produced a song for Miguel Araújo a big artist in Portugal that was played in the 3 competing radio stations. An almost impossible task that i’m very proud to have done.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: mixing an album and an EP. Producing 5 songs for 3 different artists.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: no

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Digital, it’s faster and no compromise at all as of a few years ago. The range of choices i have in digital is immense and would be impossible to have the same in analog at this budget.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: it’s only done when you are happy.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: Being immersed in sound.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: if i like the song. The answer is yes, i wouldn’t work in it if i didn’t like it, and i have a very varied taste in music.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: That you can make a song be something it is not.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: If they have any references, if they have a rough and what they like about it, when do they need have the job finished.

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Listen to my work and see if it fits your taste.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: computer with software, microfone, pre, acoustic guitar, headphones.

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I was a successful touring/studio musician in Portugal and made a lot of records in that side of the glass. 10 years ago i changed lanes and got into producing and engineering full time.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: Straight to the point and not intrusive.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
