Oscar was absolutely brilliant and the parts he created really took my song to the next level. Oscar was great to bounce ideas off and was very professional at every point. Very quick to respond and followed my brief. My producer was very impressed with the quality of drums, highly recommend and will definitely work with Oscar again.

I've worked with Oscar on a few projects over the years for both other artist's music in sessions, and also on my own music. He has always been well prepared, served the song, and made sure the artist's musical references and notes are taken into account. He's a great guy to work with, you won't be dissapointed!

Worked with Oscar on a few library music projects and for each one, he has delivered high quality, well recorded drum tracks that were creative and spot on the brief! Communication with Oscar is smooth and he did great work on getting the desired results for the tracks.

Oscar played drums for a project for me and the turnabout time was tight and he got to it very quickly and played to the brief. The recording was clean and had some good options so was delighted with the results

I've worked with Oscar for 15 years and he puts his all into every drum part composition, and performance whilst constantly striving for improvement.
He really cares about the drum sound, concept and how it sits within a song. He's a great professional and a great energy within any session.

Very pleased with the service I was provided by Oscar Behrens. His attitude was professional as well as the the drum recordings themselves. He understood what I wanted from the off while also showing he was able to instill his own creative side which I loved! I wholeheartedly recommend Oscar Behrens.

Interview with Oscar Behrens

  1. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  2. A: Both. It's been this way for many years now, it's not going away.

  3. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  4. A: That every job is different and I get to work with amazing people. Also getting paid to play drums is pretty cool!

  5. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  6. A: That I'm rich

  7. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  8. A: How long is the piece and what is the style? What made you enquire with me? Can you give me references?

  9. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  10. A: Make sure you provide clear information, are quick to reply and the track you provide is in time and recorded to a click.

  11. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  12. A: Deck chair, umbrella, cocktail kit, snacks, comic nooks

  13. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  14. A: I've wanted to be a drummer ever since leaving school. I've been a pro musician for nearly 10 years.

  15. Q: How would you describe your style?

  16. A: Influenced by Matt Cameron (Soundgarden), Jimmy Chamberlain (Smashing Pumpkins), Gavin Harrison (Porcupine Tree), Brad Wilk (RATM), Danny Carey (Tool) and few more.

  17. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  18. A: I'd love to work with Steven Wilson. I've been obsessed with his music ever since discovering him. The musicians he has worked with is incredible and ever album he creates is something slightly different.

  20. A: The most expensive gear doesn't always suit the track.

  21. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  24. A: Communication and ability.

  25. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  26. A: I play for the song and I'm not a "drummers drummer" I want the best drum parts for the song. I bring my expertise and knowledge from spending many years playing in many times of genres live and in the studio.

  27. Q: What's your typical work process?

  28. A: As my gear is always set up I can easily get to work when I need too. Once I receive what I need, I usually spend a few hours just listening to the artists track. If I'm given creative freedom I listen to the track without drums

  29. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  30. A: I have a wide range of gear that I've collected over the years. My 2 main kits are made from Birch and Maple/Walnut. Variety of snares made from brass, maple and aluminium. Zildjian cymbals and mics from Rode, Shure, AKG, Audix.

  31. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  32. A: I'm inspired by many musicians/artists such as Matt Cameron, Steven Wilson, Jimmy Chamberlain, Trent Reznor, London Grammar, Dave Matthews Band, Lana Del Ray, RATM, Miley Cyrus and many more.

  33. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  34. A: My most common work involves following a brief, replacing a programmed drum part or even replacing live drums. Liaising with the clients and being quick to respond.

2023 was the first time I worked with sync company, London Sync. It was great working with them and I'm excited for more projects to come. The most important thing to for me is that the client/company are happy, which in this case they were!
