Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Mostly producing my own music. I write in a Prog metal band (think Porcupine tree, Karnivool, Tool, Steven wilson) which I love for experiementing more out there sounds!. I also Write music as a solo artist which is a mix of Guitar instrumental led music, and Old Video game Chiptune/ Electronic music with Nintendo Gameboys ad Synths. sometimes fused together!
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Ask all the questions you want to at the beginning, help me know what you're expecting from me musically, and from there I can bring my experience and creativity into it.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Just an Electric Guitar, Headphones, Delay pedal, Looper, and a Gameboy haha!
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I perform alot of Pop, Funk and Rock songs in Live bands all through the year so I'm very comfortable with locking down on those styles, and enjoy it greatly. But with my own music I go alot more Prog rock, Electronic and Atmospheric, so I love Experimenting with Effects, and making the Guitar sound less traditional!
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: When I hear a song I like, or I can tell the client is excited to push their project further, I really get into it. I get just as excited and want to give song everything I can offer.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: My experience of knowing what guitar style and tones will work to serve the song. But also my creative Mindset of arranging music and adding some sparkle and uniqueness to sections of the song. Both dynamically, and Tonally.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I look at the clients brief and notes, I listen to any referenes they have sent me and their Demo/project. I write down notes on my first listen for what I think will serve the song, and any important notes. From there I tend to lay down the core parts, and add layers and additional ideas that the Client may like to add to their song.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Electric guitars mostly run through the Kemper Profiler which has Superb quality profiles of all the classic amps, Marshalls, fenders, Vox's. It allows me to get so many tones when layering parts, I couldn't be with out it. Acoustic get a blend of the Kemper plus some mics setup in my studio to get some more warmth. I montior both with Studio Speakers and Headphones to get a balanced picture of the mix.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: People like Cory Wong or Nile Rodgers, who are not only amazing guitar players, but they know how to arrange songs and really serve the music when workign with others. make big sections sound BIG and let Intimate sections have room to breathe.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Recording Electric and Acoustic guitars for clients.
