Interview with Majik Reed

  1. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  2. A: To put my ALL into their project.

  3. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  4. A: Why am I so expensive? Because I'm worth it!

  5. Q: What's your typical work process?

  6. A: Create a rough beat around the vocals. Track ALL vocals. Then rebuild the musical bed around the vocals. Then edit, mix and master.

  7. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  8. A: Honestly... ALL of my projects are a part of me... like my children. They are each unique and special and therefore whether they are huge worldwide hits or local success stories I am EQUALLY proud of them.

  9. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  10. A: My next hit!

  11. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  12. A: Digital. Faster more efficient workflow.

  13. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  14. A: My clients. They remind me of what it is to have a dream and chase it with all you've got!

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: That anyone with a laptop can do it.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: What is your budget because I don't want to work for FREE! ;)

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: I am very confident and actually quite arrogrant when it comes to my work. And because of that I will NEVER allow anything of substandard quality to leave my studio because I have a reputation to uphold. So these traits will ensure that your project is something we BOTH can brag about at the end of the day.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: My laptop, a keyboard controller, my headphones, my MPC, and a USB Microphone.

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: My career path has always been music and so I have been doing this since the age of 12.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: Edgy, Soulful, like the background music for whatever is going on in someone's life at the time they hear it!

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: I have worked with everyone from Beyonce to Stevie Wonder to Mariah Carey to LL Cool J and Will Smith so whoever can bring to the industry the similar things that they have provided their fans with will always intrigue me.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Never put too much in a song. Do not smother it with too much music or vocals. You have to give it room to breathe. You will NEVER be able to understand 22 people talking to you each at the same time... Neither will the person who is listening to your song. #keepitsimple
