Alexandros Yakas on SoundBetter

I have been professionally composing, producing, sound designing & mixing music since 2003 and mastering since 2010. I’m counting over 200 tracks up to today (2019) that are in the market and have been used by numerous tv/radio shows, advertisements and documentaries all over the world.

Music is my passion. I have been producing music for as long as I remember myself. I produce a variety of music genres like Chill Out, Ambient, EDM, Rock, Drum & Bass, Pop, Hip Hop, Heavy Metal, Trance, Soundtracks and more!

My musical background helps me create very musical results and provide the artist with the sound he or she was after no matter if that’s Heavy Metal, Pop or Electronica.

My #1 priority is to make the artist happy with my work regardless if it’s producing, sound design, mixing or mastering music.

Alex is a guy with original passion for music which triggers his ability to handle any aspect with care. I'm very satisfied with the masters he's done for me and that also reflected in the dancefloor.

Alexandros mixed and mastered three tracks for me. This was my first time hiring a mix/master engineer. He was professional, helpful and guided me to achieve the best possible result in a very short time. He is focused, fast and understands what needs to be done to bring out the artists' vision for the project. The tracks were of different genres, yet Alexandros showed the ability to understand exactly what each track needed and bring out the best elements of each one, while maintaining the overall vision of the project. I would definitely recommend Alexandros and will work with him again

There are two main reasons I worked with Alexandros on multiple projects over the years: Quality and Trust. His passion and knowledge for the craft and art of audio production is undeniable and will only result in a superior product!
Under any circumstances, he surpassed my expectations and helped with recording/mixing AND producing. In addition, his creative input should not be understated as he always managed to bring that 'extra' component that simply made the song better!
Alexandros is not only a ninja with his tools, he is also very punctual and fast. 110% Recommended!!!

Alexandros's work reflected every detail we were expecting. He showed high level of understanding on our requests (we were very exigent) and carried out the project surpassing every challenge a marketing presentation can induce. He discusses issues honestly and keeps the discussion focused on how to solve and improve things. Delivery time is also very good as he successfully prioritizes the work load and difficulties. Alexandros is very professional, passionate and a perfectionist with impressive technical and theoretical knowledge in addition to stunning and sensational artistic creativity.

Alexandros is a professional with excellent knowledge of music and cinematography. We have worked together on a short movie project where he passionately provided his instilled knowledge in sound engineering, boom operation, mixing, editing and composing original score. The results are amazing! He knows his stuff and is a person you can trust. He keeps his word and is always keen to make things better while respecting the bigger picture.
Our collaboration was smooth and would definitely work with Alexandros again.
Additionally, he is a really fun guy to work with!

Interview with Alexandros Yakas

  1. Q: How would you describe your style?

  2. A: What style? This is business. This is sound we're talking about :) My number 1 priority is to make my clients happy. That's my style.

  3. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  4. A: I use many hats in my work. I produce, compose, mix and master my own music. I have been working (and still am) on that since a kid. I never give up. That's what I'm more proud of.

  5. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  6. A: I've been always very inspired by cinematic sound. There are no boundaries when scoring for motion picture. I would like to work with Hans Zimmer!

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Potato or Potatoe and why? In other words, shut the f*ck up and be creative! The world needs creative people not psychos!

  9. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  10. A: I've been producing music since I remember myself. My first commercial release is dated back in 2003.

  11. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  12. A: I'm producing a lot of music for music libraries!

  13. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  14. A: That they'll be happy with the final result of my work!

  15. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  16. A: I'm myself!

  17. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  18. A: - How much is it going to cost more or less? - More is going to cost more and less is going to cost less.

  19. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  20. A: As an electronic music producer, people think that I'm downloading music parts from the internet and then I put them together by only changing the order or something. Don't know what's wrong with people. That did actually happen once, some years ago. But really, people do not quite understand the level of difficulty of being a SERIOUS electronic music producer.

  21. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  22. A: "Do you have money?" Joke apart, they usually ask me stuff, not the other way around.

  23. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  24. A: Make sure you know what you want and then make sure you use the correct words to describe it...

  25. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  26. A: A laptop. Good pair of speakers. Huge drive with samples. Midi keyboard and an autonomous power supply to power all that sh!t :D Oh, and a dog please. Dogs do not count as gears... :) Oh and my wife too please, not a gear either!...Hope she doesn't realise she's last in the list!

  27. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  28. A: There is something that stupidly took me many years to realise and to kind of control it. HATS! Hats, hats and hats!!! Did I mention...HATS? When you're in the studio just ask yourself why you're there. If you're there as a producer, just wear the producer's hat and focus on those skills...Do not get destructed by things that are meant to be done later on in the process by either yourself or someone else! Typical mistake I was doing, I was laying down ideas and musically expressing my feelings. I had inspiration. Instead of taking advantage of this energy I would then spend hours to perfect my kick & bass sonic relation...Two problems. I completely missed the momentum of creation and I was waisting my time on perfecting the sound of kick and bass like if one would listen to only this couple in solo when listening to the track...But hey, I was young! :)

  29. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  30. A: Mainly electronic music.

  31. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  32. A: I listen to my clients. I'm actually listening to what they have to say. I work with them. We make a team and we work together.

  33. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  34. A: Whatever the client needs and whatever I feel it should be. Sometimes this takes a lot of effort, a lot of chatting, compromising and experience. What I always keep in mind and I tell my clients is that we both care for the song and we both want its best. Like good parents we are :)

  35. Q: What's your typical work process?

  36. A: It all depends on what I'm working on. If I'm about to start a new mix for a client or for myself, I'll generally spend time to well organise and name my files. I cannot stand files when they're not named after their content. So, before even starting the mixing party, I'll do that along with organising the folder in my disk drive. Then I'll obviously import all these tracks to my session. I will organise my tracks by rearranging them depending on the instrument importance and colour code them. Then I'll be ready to start mixing.

  37. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  38. A: I'm working in a noise free and acoustically treated environment. For a full list of equipment I use you can check my "GEAR HIGHLIGHTS".

  39. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  40. A: I listen to all sorts of music and I like many producers.

  41. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  42. A: Lately I've been reproducing, mixing and mastering a lot of music for a client brining a fresher and modern touch to his music with the sound of today.
