Interview with Sarah Caltieri

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I'm especially proud of my debut album. I wanted every single song to sound amazing on the 10 track album and I performed every song to a live audience before shortlisting them and co-produced it with a triple platinum award winner working with top session players in the industry to get every single note and sound on the album the way that I wanted it. It took 2 years and a remix to get it right, but I am proud of this art piece that I will leave to the world as my legacy!

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Several dance remixes of my own compositions and also an original single release.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Simon Bradshaw

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Both as I feel the analog sound gives a vibrancy and a warmth that digital just can't do not matter what effects are put on it. It's like a magic vibration, but there are so many tricks with digital that can be incorporated in enhancing areas of song and production that analog just can't do.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: To deliver excellence!

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: Being able to use the gifts I was given to inspire and to share with the world. I also love meeting and working with other people.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: Q:How did I learn to sing the way I do. Answer: Learned everything I could about my own voice including different areas of performance, microphone technique and expression.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: It's glamorous!

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: What experience they've had in the industry and doing their craft.

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Don't be shy about coming forward and giving direction.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: A cappuccino machine, an ipad, acoustic guitar,a pen & paper & a blood test machine (as I want to keep myself alive as I'm a type 1 diabetic)

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: My career path was always to sing, perform, write, record songs and be played on the radio in order to inspire people. I've achieved this and more and haven't stopped and never will. I've been doing this for the past 20 plus years.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: A Sarah Caltieri version of Stevie Nicks.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: I would like to work with The Weekend because he has great songs, great production, great vocals, great messages, nice person and good values.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: One I've learnt through my years is taking the best take of a vocal and tweaking any bits that may be slightly out of tune or pumping in an extra letter or word rather than putting a vocal through an auto tune when not needed as I feel the voice is the most prominent part of a song in some cases and should be expressed.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: Pop/rock or electronic.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: Vocal performance and emotional interpretation as well as melody and lyric writing.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: Life!

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: I get a feel for the song and work out the best way in delivering the emotion first and foremost and then tonality of the voice and how to transcend the writer's story through it.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: I currently use a professional recording studio with an analog mixing desk.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: Any artists that are unique, has their own style and sound and are not afraid re-invention. I'm inspired by producers who have an ability to work with real instruments and different microphones, but who can also take and individual song and do what's right for the song and the voice.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: Performance and recording.
