Interview with Jorge Alvarez
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital, the possibility of recall.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: You are going to be happy
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Work on what I love
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: Confuse production with mixing.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Tell me 2 or 3 references of artists that you love and that you want the sound to go in that direction.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Be sure you're happy with the recording, production and arrangement of your song. So that one of the mix revisions is not "re-record this part, or change this melody".
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Headphones, audio interface, laptop, guitar, and midi controller.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: 10 years.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Even though I have a style, I really like to try not to always give it the same sound for everyone. I like to give the song the mix it deserves, and each one deserves a different style.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would like to work with a famous artist of each musical style, I am passionate about music in general.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Turn off your phone and close all social media. If you come out of inspiration, it's going to take a long time to get back to where you were.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Rock, urban, hip hop.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I think I have a talent for understanding well what the client wants. most of the time I manage to find what the artist had imagined.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Making the mix part of what is being told in the music, with the lyrics and the arrangement. The mix has to be a support to enhance that message.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have a studio just for mixing and editing. Fully acoustically treated. My mixes are totally in the box, I run Cubase Pro 12 with many plugins from Fabfilter, Slate Digital, Waves, Izotope, UAD, Brainworx, Apogee. RME Digiface AES 14x16 Audio Interface. ADAM Audio A8H Monitors. AKG K712 Headphones.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Jaycen Joshua, Chris Lord-Alge, Adam Nolly Getgood
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: What I do the most is mixing.
