  8. A: The music, of course!

  9. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  10. A: That my job is merely technical. Wrong! My function in the project is also creative! But a creativity that serves the artist's vision!

  12. A: 1. My Laptop with Ableton Live! 2. My AKG K240 Studio Headphones! 3. My Behringer 303 (Acid Machine) 4. A Roland 909 Drum Machine 5. An Acoustic Guitar

  13. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  14. A: Since very young, I am enthusiast of music. First of all I am a music listener and that's actually my favourite job. Then I started playing guitar in my teens. I played in some bands, but I wanted to be involved in all stages of creating a song, so I started to produce and mix on my own. I decided to study Music Sciences in the university in Lisbon to increase my knowledge and also allowed me some collaborations. Besides that I am also a Techno Producer/DJ. And now I'm growing my own studio project called SonicAlchemy and here we are.

  15. Q: How would you describe your style?

  16. A: A controlled chaos! Exactly on the tightrope! Capable of provoking the most distinct emotions! However subtle, refined with detail!

  17. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  18. A: John Frusciante, because he is incredibly devoted and creative! Always looking for new ways of doing things.

  19. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  20. A: Music (in geral) is all about dynamics and contrasts, between moments of tension and moments of release. And it's in those subtle movements that the music flows and moves us.

  21. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  22. A: Curiosity. My curiosity makes me restless, always searching for new ways and forms, always trying to bring something new to the table, not being satisfied with what's pre-established. And all of that gives me another powerful skill - Creativity!

  23. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  24. A: I bring the vision of the artist with clarity and personality! I bring creativity to the table to fill the gaps, that little details that make a difference between a good song and a great song!

  25. Q: What's your typical work process?

  26. A: Full Productions: 1. I always start with a meeting to know better the project, what's expected, the artistic vision... Basicly, all the details necessary to run the collaboration the best way. 2. Then I start working on the song (composition, instrumentation, arragement, editing, etc...) 3. Then I present the results to client. If he/she is not 100% satisfied I keep working on the song until we find the final result that 100% satisfies the client. 4. Then I mix the song to radio-ready quality standards. 5. I then repeat the step 3 but this time for the mixing. 6. And finally, I do the mastering of the song to be ready to release. All of this is interspersed with multiple revisions. A good communication is one of the most important tools to achieve the best result.

  33. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  34. A: 1. What are the plans for the project (a single, an album, an EP, ...)? 2. What do you have so far for the project? 3. What is the style/genre? 4. What message do you want to convey? The vision? 5. What's the personality of the song/album? Which characteristics do you think are the most important? Etc... Basically, all the details that can help understand and consolidate the artistic vision better!

  35. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  36. A: Try to understand if the provider fits your necessities and vision. He/She can be an amazing producer, mixing engineer (whatever) but may not be the best choice for your style, or to understand what you really want for the project. Look for someone that not only understands you but also celebrates you and your vision!
