Interview with Federico Sosa
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That it's easy, so many musicians don't take their part with the responsability they should.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I'm always trying to get into the artist head to understand their vision.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: When a songwriter aproachs me, we always start talking about their vision for the song. Then we begin to build the song arround the original demo. The artists vision is the most important thing to start the whole process in the right track.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Don't leave for tomorrow what you can fix today. Fix it in the mix DOESN'T work.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I aim to provide the most balanced result in terms of Loudness, Stereo Width, Dynamic Range, and Mix Clarity.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I'm currently working entirely ITB in my personal Home Studio.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I promise to follow their vision for the song.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: The story behid the song, any musical influences and wich goals do they have with their music
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Order is key for a better workflow.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I mostly work in different varietes of rock (hard rock, punk rock, metal, pop rock, indie rock). I've also worked in reggaeton and trap music.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I mostly do guitar recording, production and mixing.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I'm currently recording, producing and mixing DAMONS 2nd album.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital has many advantages over analog, you can recall an entire mix in seconds. You can achieve really good sounding mixes using plugins too. Tho, some analog doesn't hurt anybody ;)
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: The music.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My computer, a great home studio recording interface, a good pair of headphones, a plug cable and my Stratocaster.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started playing guitar at the age of 8. Since I was 15 I've been recording myself and friends at home. I joined Damons in 2018 and released our first self recorded/produced/mixed/mastered record in early 2020. We're currently working on our next album. I've also joined Urbantech Records in late 2019.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I'd love to work with Marty Friedman. He is one of the best guitar players on the world and my childhood guitar hero <3.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I'm really into the sound of Foo Fighters, Linkin Park, Richie Kotzen, Three Days Grace, Paramore, Preaty Reckless, Halestorm. In the behind the scenes, I really like the work of Andy Wallace, Nolly, Johann Meyer, Jeff Balding, Ted Jensen.
