Interview with Federico Sosa
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I'm currently producing and mixing an Argentinian punk rock band.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital. Analog is more expensive and you can achieve really good sounding mixes using plugins that emulate analog gear.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: Your song will be completly ready to be uploaded to any streaming platform.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: The music.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: You should have everything as ordered as possible. If you name your track stems Serum, Serum 2, Serum 3, Serum 4, the mixing engineer will have to listen everything to know what kind of sound you have choose from Serum.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My computer, a great home studio recording interface, a good pair of headphones, a plug cable and my Stratocaster.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started playing guitar at the age of 8. Since I was 15 I've been recording myself and friends at home. I joined Damons about 2 years ago and released our first self produced/mixed/mastered record in early 2020. I also joined Urbantech Records in late 2019.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I'm guided by the song and sonoric path chosen by the artist.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I'd love to work with John Mayer. He is one of the best guitar players and song writers of the world.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Fix it in the mix DOESN'T work. Always
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I usually work on hard rock, pop rock and indie rock.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I'm always learning.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I can bring a professional streaming ready mix and I also can create some interesting guitar arrangements.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I always try to reach where the song wants to go. The music is always first.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I currently work in my personal Home Studio with Studio One 5. I record through the PreSonus Studio 24c and I use the Audio Technica ATH m50x headphones.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Gustavo Cerati, Luis Alberto Spinetta, Sting, Tom Misch, John Mayer, Foo Fighters, Linkin Park. In the behind the scenes world I really like the work of Mariano Bilinkis, Mario Breuer, Tweety Gonzalez, Evlay, Michael Brauer, Andrew Scheps, Butch Vig.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I mostly do mixing and mastering.
