Interview with Axl Cordova
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I made the record of an artist called Dean S. I'm really proud because he was the first artist who trusted me within SoundBetter. It was very special to be able to perform different songs and to be able to constantly work with an artist remotely through this modality. I am very grateful to Dean S for trusting me and my work
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I am currently making the complete album of an urban music artist called Ivan Pr, this musical project has different guest artists so it is a challenge to deal with different artists and achieve their best vocal performance since each artist is different, it really is quite a challenge but I like challenges
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: I know different Artists and Singers from my own country that I always recommend because I work with them myself for projects where I need vocal recordings. Among which are Andrea Valverde and Ivan Pr, incredible performers and singers
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Currently digital, because we live in a world of constant evolution and development. I am a faithful believer in technology and innovations. Every day more people rely on digital technology and it is a process in which music is included.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: The promise to my clients is to perfectly understand the idea they have in mind regarding the musical project and achieve client satisfaction no matter what.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: What I like most about my job is the adventure of achieving perfection in new musical projects and being able to please the client with my skills. You can't read clients' thoughts and it's a lot of fun to be able to achieve that by successfully completing clients' musical projects.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Clients usually ask me if their musical projects are within the range in which I can manage and how many revisions I can accept within the cost of the project. I always answer honestly about the skills I can bring to a client's project and naturally give whatever revisions are necessary to make the client happy with their musical project.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: I would like to say that what I offer is not only a service and that's it. My work goes beyond an action. I like to work hand in hand with the client or artist. I try to give you a pleasant experience and be able to excite you with all the technical and creative process that I offer. I like to give confidence that the project will not end until I am completely satisfied.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I always try to ask his references and inspirations that he got for his musical project. This allows me to understand the concept and not leave the margin that the references and inspirations mark in the client's musical project.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: I would advise any artist to look for the producer or service that best suits their musical ideas. I would advise any client who wants to work with me not to be afraid to ask any questions and express everything that goes through their head to achieve the goal perfectly. I will gladly have enough time to listen and understand your ideas to achieve the most perfect possible.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: In short, I would carry my acoustic guitar, a microphone, my laptop and my apollo twin to be able to perform and record all the musical ideas that go through my head constantly.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: My professional career begins 7 years ago when I made my first EP as a music producer. I started in the local scene of my city producing different rock bands. In the first years of his professional career, he developed different musical productions for rock, metal and alternative bands. For 5 years I began to study music production at the university and began to receive knowledge of music theory and harmony. In recent years he made these musical productions for R&B, POP and urban music artists where he applied all the knowledge he learned over the years and the experience he acquired throughout these 7 years of professional career.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I could describe my style as aggressive in the rhythm and consistent in the sustain of the productions that I make.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would like to work with Latin urban artists such as J Balvin, Jhay Cortez, Duki, Sech, among others.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: The advice I could give is to always listen to new music, make daily productions as a practice and training method and finally, never stop learning new things.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Although I develop myself in different musical genres, most of the jobs that I usually do today are pop and urban music productions. Likewise, it is very common to mix and master these musical productions.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My greatest skills are developed in the mix of songs from different genres and the development of musical productions of urban and pop music.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: At the time of the musical process, I focus on finding unique and attractive sounds to the human ear. To be able to conquer the listener as the song develops. In addition, I always like to add my personal stamp to the musical project with the technical decisions I make when making it.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Each musical project is different, so the musical process is adapted to the concept of the song. However, I always try to study the main concept of the musical project by listening to some references and getting to know the artist of the musical project a little more. In this way, obtain the greatest achievement of the musical project
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: The producers that inspire my productions are Mauricio Rengifo, Max Martin, Big One among other producers of pop music and urban music.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My studio setup is made up of my Apollo Twin x interface, an i9 pc with 16 RAM and 2TB solid state drives. As monitoring I use ADAMs F7 and Senheiser HD 650 headphones.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
