Interview with Pablo Barros

  1. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  2. A: Both. I like using the best of both worlds.

  3. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  4. A: To help them achieve something they will be proud of.

  5. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  6. A: The Music! I love being able to help someone realize the full potential in their art.

  7. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  8. A: i like to ask if they have any specific deadlines and also for reference tracks and rough mixes

  9. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  10. A: Is there electricity?

  11. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  12. A: I have been working in the music industry for over 20 years, mostly mixing records. I started as an assistant engineer (at Panda Studios, Buenos Aires, Argentina), working with some of the biggest engineers and producers around, and later move on to becoming a mix engineer myself. Since 2021 I have my own dreamed Mix & mastering studio with perfect acoustics and equipment for my work.

  13. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  14. A: I work on a lot of Alt-Rock, Indie Rock, pop, post punk and more!

  15. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  16. A: I always try to figure out what makes each individual song special and unique, and then try to reinforce that. I believe that a good mix needs vibe and a clear focus.

  17. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  18. A: I mainly use Pro Tools Studio and Ableton live. The music goes out of my computer to my Universal audio Apollo 16 and then to my Phoenix audio nicerizer 16 MK2 Summing Console to give me analog warmth and depth that I feel you can only get in the analog world. From there it goes to my all analog mastering chain. In the computer I use a ton of different plugins from UAD, plugin alliance, FabFilter, softube and many more I have some vintage analog FX devices too

  19. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  20. A: I’m a big fan of Serban Ghenea and Tchad Blake as far as mixers. To me they are the best at bringing a song to life.

  21. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  22. A: Mixing and mastering
