Interview with Esteban

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: The last album for my band was a great project. A lot of work and hours of recording and mixing were invested. I was involved in most of the composition, recording and mixing production.

  3. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  4. A: Technical advances in guitar amp modeling make recording digital the most efficient option. Due to the mixing and mastering requirements that music aggregators and distributors have, songs will be compressed and for the most part one won’t be able to distinguish the difference between analog or digital.

  5. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  6. A: Professionalism, customer satisfaction and prompt service

  7. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  8. A: Listen to samples and have a chat to share each other’s ideas and see if the provider / customer are a good fit together.

  9. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  10. A: As a musician, I have been creating and performing live for over 10 years.

  11. Q: How would you describe your style?

  12. A: Acoustic, chill, modern

  13. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  14. A: Other guitarists, percussionists, bassists, and any musicians that love what they do and are always creating.

  15. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  16. A: Less is more when it comes to adjusting the equalizer. Subtractive EQ is always the right approach.

  17. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  18. A: • Rumba Flamenca • Acoustic guitar • Alternative • Modern • Rock

  19. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  20. A: My strongest skill is in music composition and guitar playing.

  21. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  22. A: Having composed two Latin based acoustic instrumental albums, I offer a spicy flavor to the musical rhythms and lead lines. My techniques allow me to perform fast improvisational guitar pieces. But my musical background runs in my family and enables me to focus on the right notes for putting together a colorful melody. In my playing I make use of the standard major scale and it’s modes. But my melodies, given the scenario can range from a smooth and chill pentatonic a la Santana to a flamenco Phrygian sound to a spooky Raga Multani scale.

  23. Q: What's your typical work process?

  24. A: For musical compositions I like to work in an agile way. In this manner, constant feedback from the client is key. Rather than painting the Monalisa in one shot, I like to build off multiple iterations always with the client’s requests in mind.

  25. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  26. A: My studio is sound proofed and acoustically treated for recording acoustic guitar rhythm and leads and are captured by small diaphragm condenser mics. For recording electric guitar, the studio is set up with a Line 6 POD Go capable of reproducing almost any tone with its powerful amp and cabinet modeling. A PreSonus interface is used for input into the DAW (Studio One). PreSonus full range monitors are balanced for listening to the mix.

  27. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  28. A: Rodrigo y Gabriela, Rage Against the Machine, Opal Ocean, Daft Punk, Santana, Jesse Cook

  29. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  30. A: Acoustic instrumental guitar music performance, songwriting and collaboration.
