Interview with Jeroen van Vegchel
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I LOVE helping fellow creatives achieve their vision. It is, to me, the most gratifying experience of my life. It moves me deeply every single time that people entrust me with their art.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I first got into music production nearly 10 years ago when I was in high school. That slowly spiraled from a hobby into a career as I got asked by more and more artists to work on their projects whilst I was finishing up my Bachelor's degree at HKU University of the Arts in Utrecht, The Netherlands. At this point in my career I've had the pleasure of working with dozens of artists from all over the world, and I have 50+ credits to my name.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: It sounds cliché but trust your gut! It will always tell you what is right. If it feels good, it is good.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I work on all kinds of music! Most of it falls under the 'pop' umbrella - whether it be electronic pop, alternative pop, indie pop, synth pop, folk, country, etc. I don't like to box myself in too much. Working on different genres is what keeps my work interesting and challenging.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I work from my own studio in London, UK. The studio is built from the ground up to be a cosy, warm and inspiring place to work in - for myself as well as the artists that come to visit. I spent weeks building custom acoustic treatment to get the room sounding just right. The process of mixing music is all about making decisions. Hearing exactly what's going on allows me to make educated decisions which ultimately leads to the best results.
