Sitarist Indrajit Banerjee is one of the leading exponents of the Maihar Gharana. He was born in a musical family, unique due to the large number of accomplished artists in Hindustani Classical Music. Some of these family members include his guru, Pandit Kartick Kumar (Sitar), Pandit Barun Kumar Pal (Hamsa Veena), Niladri Kumar (Sitar), Partho Das.

A: Bring something new to the song.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Indian classical, jazz and world fusion collaborations, funk, and other genres.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: To listen to a track and come up with a unique melody.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: In addition to playing a track exactly as requested, I can improvise and add a new musical dimension to the piece by playing backups and solos as required.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: First I chart out the song in Indian musical scores and then record.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I record in a local studio in Austin, Texas, not at home.
