Interview with Sean "Mets" Riggins
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: I am not producing your song and adding music to it. We are mixing.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: iPhone, MacBook, AbletonLive, Apollo interface, Neumann TLM 103 or a Shure Sm7b
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I have been engineering for over 15 years. I went to multiple schools and got excellent mentorship along the way.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I like to make things sound as 3D as possible with nice low end. I want people to feel the project and be immersed.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Andre 3000. Love his style, what he has to say, and him as a person I would like to vibe with.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: One production tip I have is if you have a lot of guitars make sure you roll off the low end.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Here in Atlanta lots of hip hop and r&b. Also góspel here. However, I’ve worked in NY and LA and TX so I’ve worked on everything from tejano to rock as well.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My attention to detail and dedication to produce a hit sound.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Whatever the song needs. I sometimes bring body, presence, vibe. Overall trying to make your project sound official and expensive.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Typically I receive files. Digest any notes from client. Organize files. And then I start addressing the balance of the mix. I then will address notes and add character to the mix and finalize.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have lots of outboard gear and all industry standard plugins.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Quincy Jones, Pharrell, Michael Jackson, Timbaland, etc.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
