Britton Sear on SoundBetter

I produce dreamy guitar-based pop music for recording artists and sync sound. Recently, a track of my mine received placement in the film RUN HIDE FIGHT, which premiered at Venice Film Festival 2020. I can write your song, produce your song, mix your song, and master your song... or I can just play guitar:)

Write and Produce Vocal Melodies/Arrangements
I can help you find the perfect melody for the song in your head. We can create rich vocal harmony arrangements that bring your song to the next level.

Write and Produce Guitar Tracks
I can create custom guitar arrangements/solos for your tracks. I can cover anything from ripping guitar solos to jazzy rhythm lines.

Consult on Songwriting
I have written countless songs over the years and I'd love to share my knowledge with you. We can dive into melodic and song structure to help you create the catchiest arrangement of your ideas.

Mix/Tune Vocals
So, you're done with your song but the vocals just aren't there? Send them to me and I can professionally tune them to the industry standard. Almost all music these days has some degree of auto-tune, the T-Pain sound is not the only sound.

I have been playing guitar for over 6 years now. I play a a variety of styles from neo-soul to folk. I specialize in acoustic finger picking and wavy electric guitar.

Britton is one of the nicest guys you will meet. He creates a fun and relaxing space for you to find the song in its most authentic form. There is a sincerity in the way that he works where you truly feel his investment and love for what he is making. Not to mention, the dude is a killer guitarist.

Britton has been a guitarist in our band for over 5 years now. His songwriting is nuanced with a folksy melodic flare. He has helped to produce multiple tracks for our band and is an invaluable member of the team. Please check him out for your guitar and producing needs!

Britton and I have worked together across several single productions apart of “Softdrink” he is often willing to take the time needed to do multiple revisions and perfect the sound.

His arrangement, writing, and lyric melodies constantly shine. His vocal mixing is really fantastic, and he is not afraid of a challenge! He is willing to experiment across multiple genres.

Tl;dr Great player, writer, mixer. Well rounded and experimental at times, giving a fresh perspective on tracks!

I worked with Britton on a song for the soundtrack of a feature film as well as had him as a session guitarist for one of my tracks and he is such a great collaborator. He has a great ear for complex chord progressions while still keeping things palatable and fun to listen to. His production is always so layered and fun to listen to and his guitar playing is incredible. Especially considering the fact I just asked him to improv over my track and he played things I couldn't have even imagined on my own.

I would work with Britton time and time again, any time and any day.

Interview with Britton Sear

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I am especially proud of the track "Pure as Gold" from the film RUN HIDE FIGHT. Olly and I produced this track remotely over quarantine. I did all of the production and mixing on the track, as well as some consultation on songwriting.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Currently, I am working on tracks for my group Softdrink. Softdrink's music allows me to experiment with new techniques and develop new sounds. We are planning an EP-release in mid-2021.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Olly Sholotan. He is a very talented Songwriter/Producer. We recently collaborated on the track, "Pure as Gold", that received placement in the film RUN HIDE FIGHT at the 2020 Venice Film Festival

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Digital 99% of the time. Technology is at the point where we can get so close to analog sounds with much fewer resources.

  9. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  10. A: What is missing in this moment? Many times during the production process, the artist may sense that the song is missing an element but they can't quite identify it. That is why is nice to collaborate with a seasoned producer that can give input that makes each part of the song shine.

  11. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  12. A: "Music production is just pushing buttons". There is an immense amount of technical skill needed to produce music but that isn't what will make a compelling song. Technical know-how has to be supported by good musical ideas and by an understanding of theory.

  13. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  14. A: Who are you inspired by? How do you want this song to make your fans feel?

  15. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  16. A: Make sure the person you hire is someone you can have a creative relationship with. If that part is missing, the entire process and the results will be affected.

  17. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  18. A: I would like to produce for all types of artists. I have worked in the entertainment industry since I was 14 years old. I have been apart of many bands and produced audio for sync-sound and film projects since 2016.

  19. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  20. A: I have been using Logic Pro X for almost 7 years. You can rest assured that the idea that is in your head, will make it into you ears.

  21. Q: What's your typical work process?

  22. A: Typically, I'll make a basic instrumental that solidifies the structure of the song. Then, I'll polish the instrumental while working on the vocal arrangement with the artist to make sure those elements mesh perfectly.

  23. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  24. A: I record with a Scarlett interface running into Logic Pro X. I mix with Waves Suite plugins mostly. I play both electric and acoustic guitars. I program midi instruments and drums with an Alesis Controller.

  25. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  26. A: Kenny Beats is a huge inspiration to me. I love the way he uses layered sounds to make unique compelling arrangements. Tom Misch is an influential guitarist in my production style. I love to draw ideas from his groovy guitar lines and timeless sound.

  27. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  28. A: I help artists make their melodic and sonic ideas into reality.

  29. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  30. A: The work isn't done until we are both satisfied. The music has my name on it too!

  31. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  32. A: I like creating tangible art from abstract ideas in my head.

  33. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  34. A: Vintage Gibson Acoustic Guitar, Macbook Pro, Microphone, Midi Keyboard, Headphones. (The Necessities.)

  35. Q: How would you describe your style?

  36. A: Groove-based Indie-Pop

  37. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  38. A: I would like to work with Toro y Moi someday. His production style and varied compositions really draw me to his work. His music has a timeless quality; as he samples motifs from many decades of music.

  39. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  40. A: If you have a complex melodic idea, but can't play it on the keyboard, SING IT. You can convert that audio into MIDI and turn it into any instrument.

  41. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  42. A: Indie-Pop/Hip-Hop

  43. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  44. A: I bring a guitar-centered production style and unique layered grooves. I consider myself a perfectionist meaning, I won't be satisfied until you are.
