Interview with Olly Sholotan
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: I thrive off very clear communication! You should sugarcoat anything or be vague or be nice. I want to make a great song for YOU so it's very important that you're clear from the get go with what you want. Also always have something you're going for, whether in feel or in style or in rhythm, it gives me a general direction to head in.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Don't be afraid to try things! At the end of the day this is just music so I think the best way to discover things is go ahead with every musical instinct you have and try it out; if it does end up sounding good there is always the undo button.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Max Martin is one of my favourite songwriters. His ability to just create melodies that stick in your head and are hard to get out is something incredible to me. As far as producers Daft Punk does some incredible blending of digital sounds with analogue and classic construction or music.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Everything I do (from hip-hop to soul to rnb) always has a hint of a pop feel to it. I think that keeps it feeling fresh and gives my work a little bit of energy and head-boppability.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is melodies. Whether you already have lyrics or you just an an instrumental I can find good natural melodies that just feel good to hear and will get stuck in your head.
