Interactive, no-ego mastering from someone with years of experience working with Platinum Selling artists & underground/independent artists alike. Have done projects for Thrasher Magazine & DC Shoes, recently mastered the music that accompanied a new book by a Pulitzer Prize-winning author from the New York Times.
This is Michael From FBR Mastering. Let's get to work, getting your music properly prepared for streaming algorithms is essential. You may be familiar with the associated record label, FilthyBroke Recordings, which has been releasing myriad genres of music across all formats since 2014. Since beginning mastering out of necessity years ago, mainly for label-related projects, I ended up making the transition into mastering for other artists & labels shortly thereafter due to demand. Since then, mastering with an interactive approach has been the focus, and has thankfully allowed me to work with artists all over the world, many of which I was a fan of even as a child. My goal is to work with you, listening carefully to your ideas, in order to fully realize your project... Let's make it sound amazing, in a way where you feel comfortable and respected, as this is not a factory. Every project is special. I am in a hybrid setup that allows us flexibility to dial in the sound you desire. Most of my clients are regulars, and have sought the detailed, musical, & dynamic sound that I naturally like to bring to the table. I have worked on everything from hip hip & metal to ambient & spoken word, and look forward to hearing what you've been working on! You can hear a current reel of projects on the website, thanks for making music & keep creating!

Did a great job! Highly recommend!
Michael is super accommodating and will spend time working with artists to achieve their sound no matter how niche. He truly knows his craft! Working with him is stress free and a privilege.
This dude is a diamond in the rough. He was put on to me by homie and absolutely killed all of the projects I’ve sent to him so far. I highly recommend him to any artist, and I can only hope he has time to work on projects for me after he starts getting the respect he deserves.
Michael is truly passionate about supporting artists and making them sound their best. Listen to any project he has touched and you will see what I mean. The level of excitement that he has for his work, we should all be so lucky to experience. I've worked with Michael on a variety of projects and his level of professionalism and particular blend of sheer talent, kindness, and enthusiasm is unmatched.
On one hand I want to keep FBR a gem only a handful of people know about but on the other it's much better for music that more people know and work with him.
In a world where I slave over my beats and fret what an engineer will do with them FBR is an oasis in my desert of worry. With him, everything just sounds bigger and louder and fuller without distorting. I do not know how he does it and am glad I don't have to so I can focus on making my music.
He's mastered everything on my bandcamp and mixed my first project too.
Professional and communicative, Michael J. Collins was awesome to work with on my album. If you’re looking for quality, your search ends here.
Working with FBR Mastering was an absolute pleasure. Michael J Collins is super professional, approachable, affordable and his mastering skills are exceptional! His knowledge in this field is superb, the results of our masters were incredibly crisp, fuller and had much more depth thanks to FBR! With a fast turnaround and a service which feels really personal, we would highly recommend using FBR Mastering.
I'd highly recommend FBR. In the past I've had mastering done but didn't have much personal communication with the mastering engineer, but with FBR I was able to really communicate my needs. Also FBR is very affordable and totally worth the money. Will be using again!
Would recommend FBR to anyone. Amazing sound quality, friendly & timely service, completely professional. From Cassette, to digital, to vinyl, FBR is up to the task. 5 Stars 🌟
FBR is a legitimate post production engineer with absolutely more than fair prices. Mastering is on point, not over done.
Michael made my vocals clearer then any one I have came across so far hes such a kind person as well
FBR does excellent work both mixing and mastering, for absolutely fair prices, and is all around pleasant to work with. You can bounce ideas back and forth, give you input, have it heard, all in a super professional manner. There is no reason to look elsewhere.
Good rates, friendly dude, really fast turnaround, songs came out perfect in the first pass. That never happens! i've always dreaded the mastering phase, but he made it painless.
FBR took a project that was near and dear to me, and with 0 feedback in regards to what I was looking for as a final sound, he was able to return me product that sounded better than I could imagine, and in a very short turnaround time. Definitely consider FBR for your mastering needs.
Michael is super easy to work with, and has helped relieve my anxiety surrounding the mastering process.
It's hard to overstate how great it was to have Michael work on my album! He was so motivated and enthusiastic, very helpful with feedback and also extremely quick in adapting little changes I requested. As an artist it's not always easy to hand over your baby to someone else and I think fear of your work not being treated with the right amount of passion and eagerness is very common. This fear is not necessary at all when working with FBR. Michael dove deep into the album to make it sound and feel exactly as it should as an artistic entity, I feel. Cannot recommend enough!
i worked together with FBR several times. other reviewers already pointed out the high quality and great work ethic. i wanna highlight his empathy. by now i recommended him to several friends and everyone seems to have the same kind of experience. you feel respect for your art and that there is a genuine interest in figuring out what your music needs to shine. and depending if you just wanna trust in his abilities or wanna go into detail, the process can be quick and easy, but you can also count on him if the music or you need some extra attention. i'm sure you wouldn't regret trusting FBR.
as somebody who doesn't fit into a particular genre and who usually does everything except the mastering process of a project myself, handing a record off to mastering can be a bit nerve racking. to witness FBR's genuine enthusiasm for my last EP made me hyped for the release. i so very much appreciated getting my work mastered by somebody who didn't make me feel like it was just another project passing through, but an important piece of art, life, and sound. turnaround time was faster than expected, it sounded great, and communication was lovely. yes to all of it.
When I've worked with Michael he's not only been an efficient worker with quick turnaround times - he's sent me fulfilling and awesome sounding masters.
After I mix a song, I send it to FBR and then kick my feet up knowing it's going to come back to me sounding lovely. I also appreciate their genuine enthusiasm and customer service.
One of the best audio mastering engineers ive ever dealt with. Turnaround, quality and professionalism were all above standard, i wouldnt refer clients to anyone else but FBR for their mastering needs.
As a genre-bending/blending artist, I've been somewhat nervous when sending songs/projects in the past to mastering engineers who may tend to favor one or two specific genres that are not necessarily in my wheelhouse. Didn't always have an optimal result. However, after beginning to work with FBR a few years ago, I know I've found my forever mastering home. FBR turns projects/songs around quickly and with a compassionate and respectful ear to the artist's effort, while also delivering a high level of technical acumen and professionalism. He makes us sound our best.
Always banging, always quick turn around. FBR is an all around great guy who has a great ear for audio.
FBR has done excellent work that sounds as good as some veterans of the mastering world. I know this because of head to head comparisons. Some of the work he has done to polish lo-fi recordings is the best in the game as well - he has a real knowledge of styles of making things sound good, bumping & loud without loss of character.
