Professional vibraphone recordings that serve your music - not just fill the space.
The vibraphone has a unique ability to bring warmth, movement and character to a song. My goal is never to simply add an instrument, but to create a part that feels essential to the music.
I'm Walter Yones, a professional vibraphonist from Argentina specializing in Modern Jazz and Neo Soul. Rooted in the traditions of Roy Ayers, Gary Burton, Bobby Hutcherson and Lionel Hampton, I bring expressive improvisation, rich harmony and a unique musical voice to every recording, while being equally comfortable performing complex written parts and adapting to each project's musical vision.
I've collaborated with more than 100 artists and producers from around the world. Whether you need soulful improvisation, beautifully crafted written parts or original musical ideas, my priority is always the song. Every recording is professionally edited, mix-ready and created with one goal in mind: delivering a part your song couldn't live without.

Interview with Walter Yones
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What do you want to achieve, by when, and how do you expect to work? Provide me with all the details you consider important for the work.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Be very clear about what you want for your music and ask questions down to the smallest details you need to know to work comfortably. Create a good working environment so we can both achieve the best results as a team.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: The vibraphone was the only thing he carried since he couldn't use the rest of his equipment.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been studying music since I was 14. I trained as a drummer and percussionist until I decided to dedicate myself fully to the vibraphone as my main instrument. I have a bachelor's degree in percussion and an advanced degree in jazz vibraphone. I've also trained with numerous teachers, classes, masterclasses, and, above all, playing with different musicians and groups throughout my career.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: My style is to adapt to what the music needs.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I don't have a particular musician I'd like to work with. I honestly really enjoy working with a lot of different musicians.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Be honest in music and give your best to it.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I work in all types of music since I play an unconventional instrument and receive different types of proposals daily.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest ability is the versatility to play different types of music, improvisation, and being very honest in what I do.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: A new and fresh sound from an instrument that is not common in the music we usually hear.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: It depends a lot on the work at hand, but I usually listen a lot to the music I'm sent to work on and try to hear the essence and immerse myself in the sound. Then I try to sing or play along with it to find the sound I'm looking for, and when I'm in tune with what I'm looking for, I start recording or writing the music.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Vibraphone. Tinchofon Mallet Midi Controller. Audio technica at2020 pair. Focusrite scarlett 2i2. Speakers Adam T5v. Acoustical and improved room for better quality. Different types of malletsbows and elements for effects.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I'm inspired by many musicians, to be honest. Right now, Joel Ross is one of the musicians who inspires me the most, but he's not the only one. I'm inspired by the musicians who work hard on their music every day, and it's a pleasure for me to be part of this process.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I can make professional vibraphone recordings, whether reading sheet music, improvising, accompanying, playing by ear, or whatever else is needed for the job. I can also compose and arrange vibraphone music for different styles of music.
