Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Listen to the song through at least three times before playing a note and sing what you feel. It’s the most natural route to give sound to what our imagination comes up with.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: In recent years I’ve worked on a fair few rock projects, but I’m also very experienced in jazz, soul, house etc
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My ability to emulate other players’ tone and style.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Whatever the song requires. I aim to be a musical chameleon, capable of adapting to any style and to always serve the artist’s vision.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Most clients ask me to improvise a few different ideas over their tracks, which can help them to get a clear idea of what they require. It’s always helpful when clients come to me with a reference recording from which I can take some inspiration regarding style and tone.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Mac based setup running Logic Pro, with RME interface and a selection of condenser, dynamic and ribbon mics.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I particularly admire the session greats such as Ernie Watts and Michael Brecker, both of whom are credited on 1000s of recordings, where they played with restraint and taste, while bringing something of their own personality to the recording.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Anything from tight, punchy horn section arrangements to screaming tenor sax solos or sensitive, lyrical improvising over ballads.
