Kelly Jean Torres

Songwriter & Pro Vocalist

Kelly Jean Torres on SoundBetter

I have a passion for writing songs that really capture human emotion, and the beauty and struggle of life. I have a flexible soprano range, and can sing with as much intimacy or power that your music calls for.

How I can help:

-Songwriting Services-

-If you need a song written from scratch; music/melody/lyrics, I can do that! We will discuss the concept/message/story you’re wanting to tell... then I will write the song at my piano, record a simple work tape on my phone, and send it to you. From there you can ask for any changes, until you’re in-love with the song!

-If you have music but need melody and lyrics, I can do that too!

-If you have a melody and are having trouble with lyrics, I can help with that!

-If you need help finding a concept for a song, I can help with that too!

Essentially, no matter where you are in your songwriting process, I can take it from there ☺️

***Important note: All songwriting projects will be recorded on my phone. If you would like a professional vocal recording for your track, I can do that for an additional fee. If you would like those vocals comped & tuned, I can do that as well for an additional fee.

-Vocal Recording Services-

-If you have a finished song, and need a professional singer’s voice on your track, I can record vocals. If you would like those vocals comped & tuned, that can be done for an additional fee.

-If you need background vocals, I can record those as well!

***All vocals will be recorded on a Soyuz SU-019 Microphone in a professional recording studio by a professional recording engineer.

Interview with Kelly Jean Torres

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I'm very proud of my work on my most recent original EP, "How We Really Feel." I stayed true to myself as a songwriter, and told my story. I wrote all of the songs solo, and did all of the vocals.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Recording more original music!

  5. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  6. A: I promise to do my best work, and to meet your needs as a client. Although I am an artist, I understand that I am working for you!

  7. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  8. A: I sincerely enjoy the creative process! It brings me joy.

  9. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  10. A: That it’s all fun and games. Yes, creative jobs are fun, but in order to create something well, the mind must remain in the present moment. It takes patience, openness, and real vulnerability to create.

  11. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  12. A: What is your timeline? Who is your audience? Is there anything specific you need from me as a writer/singer on the song?

  13. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  14. A: I moved to Nashville in 2012 to develop my solo artist career, and fell even more in love with songwriting & recording! I still write and record music regularly.

  15. Q: How would you describe your style?

  16. A: Moody, quirky, fun!

  17. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  18. A: I would love to write and sing music for any one of the great film composers! Why? Because musically they create the most emotive, powerful music.

  19. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  20. A: Leave room for magic!

  21. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  22. A: Pop

  23. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  24. A: Creating song concepts, and telling a story through music.

  25. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  26. A: Emotion and truth.

  27. Q: What's your typical work process?

  28. A: My songwriting process begins with sitting at my piano, finding chord progressions that create the mood. When I've settled on the music, melody comes second, and finally lyrics. I spend the greatest amount of time perfecting lyrics, taking care to capture the emotion and direction of the song.

  29. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  30. A: My husband Eric Torres is a Grammy nominated recording engineer, and a 2x #1 record producer. He works full-time out his professional studio. All of my vocals will be recorded by him, in our professional studio. For more info visit: www.thecouchroom.com

  31. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  32. A: I'm most inspired by music composers like Hans Zimmer, John Williams.

  33. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  34. A: Songwriting, and recording vocals!
