Interview with Davion "Trenier" Farris
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I'm currently working with grammy award winning production camp 1500 or Nothing on my next solo project, as well as songs for placements in 2019!
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital, because you have more flexibility when mixing, and the difference in quality between the two is almost 0. Especially when working with Waves and UAD plug-ins.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I love making something special out of thin air. There's a magical property about songwriting that I'm absolutely in love with. Creating will always be my favorite thing to do.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started off songwriting for local artists in Los Angeles about 12 years ago, and along the way I picked up the trade of engineering in order to sharpen my craft, and make a little money on the side. It paid off really well because I ended up engineering for Tyrese Gibson's "Black Rose" camp, and through that door, was able to land 7 placements on that album. Then came Trey, and Mary, and a slew of other amazing talents. I consider myself blessed, and I'm glad I decided to engineer for sure!
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: R&b and Hip-hop music are usually home for me, but I also love pop music, and I'm always happy to knock those type of records as well.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I'd have to go with a cheat answer on my strongest skill and say singing/songwriting. I produce as well, but I've been singing for 25+ years, songwriting for 12+ and producing for 5. I love, love, love to sing and write songs that touch people no matter the mood.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: My most common job is songwriting. I have tons of experience working with demanding clients with varying requests. It has honed my ability to help people find their "sound", and added value to what I bring to the table. I always offer mixing and mastering at no charge for my songwriting and production clients. I'm also an artist, so there's the occasional feature request as well.
