Bastien sung on my pop-rock song and really nailed it! His harmonies and ad-libs brought out some hidden beauty in the song that I didn't even know was there. Will definitely work with again!

Interview with Bastien

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I'm very proud of my collaboration with DJ/Producer Vanotek. We worked on a track called 'Talk to me' that was released in June and was received very well. I was the writer and the singer for it.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I'm developing my project Bastien, for the musical and visual identity, and also for the message and story.

  5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  6. A: I think each one has his own magic.

  7. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  8. A: My promise is that I treat each project individually and I try to bring what I have best, to sing in the most beautiful way, and bring my most interesting ideas when it comes to songwriting and creating harmonies.

  9. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  10. A: Well, I don't see it as a job, because singing is something that brings me happiness and I do I for my own pleasure.

  11. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  12. A: They usually ask me if my prices are right and if the vocals contain also harmonies and my answer is yes and yes.

  13. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  14. A: That I only do sad music hahah

  15. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  16. A: I don't think I have any advice to give, only that to be himself and also to trust my work and my dedication.

  17. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  18. A: I would take a Laptop, a guitar, a set of monitors, a mic, and a Spotify subscription haha

  19. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  20. A: I started to sing from when I was I kid and I always been surrounded by music in a form or another al my life. I took lessons with vocal coaches, participated in singing competitions, been the vocal of a few music bands, collaborated with DJs, been in songwriting sessions, worked with other artists, and most important developing my current project Bastien.

  21. Q: How would you describe your style?

  22. A: Hmm, I'm still building my style and perfecting my craft, but I aim for genuineness and sincerity.

  23. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  24. A: I would love to collaborate with lots of people that I've admired for such a long time like Disclosure, SG Lewis, Troye Sivan, Lauv, Jamie Woon, Sabrina Claudio, Christine and the Queens and the list continues :))

  25. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  26. A: I think having fun it's one of the most important things when producing music, getting out every idea that you have while you're inspired without thinking that much.

  27. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  28. A: Well, I'm pretty versatile and I can work with music from different genres, but I must say that I have some favouites like R&B, Soul, Pop, Indie.

  29. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  30. A: Hmm, I think comping vocals on my own helped me to move pretty fast when recording vocals and doing adlibs/backing vocals.

  31. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  32. A: Well, I think I have a pretty soulful voice and that brings life to every song, so that's one of my assets. Another one that I can consider is what I can do with my creativity, like adlibs and creating harmonies packages.

  33. Q: What's your typical work process?

  34. A: After I have all the information from the client, like the instrumental, the type of vocals he needs, references, etc, I start listening to the track a few times, and then start recording following his direction. After I think I checked all the requirements, I do 2-3 tracks of freestyling and that's it.

  35. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  36. A: I have a pretty basic home studio setup for now. I work within Ableton on a Macbook, with a Scarlet 2i2 audio interface, Rode NT1 microphone, KRK RP5 RoKit Classic monitors, and Beyerdynamic DT-770 Pro headphones.

  37. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  38. A: I'm really inspired by the production and sonics of James Blake, Jamie Woon, Tame Impala, Frank Ocean.

  39. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
