Interview with Roman Kharyukov
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Analog for tracking, digital for mixing. Taking the best from both worlds.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: If you like some of my previous work - you will like the result. Even if there're tons of problems on the way (bad tracking, edits, problems with arrangement, etc.) - I'm here to help you with that. Mixing by itself is not a cure in many cases.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Opportunity to work with great musicians on a great music.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: Biggest misconception is what mixing can fix almost everything and takes small amount of time.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: If you play rock/metal of any kind and looking for a modern, big sound - send me a demo! Also If you're struggling to make your songs sounds good and start to think it's not the mix (maybe tried to mix it somewhere else and was not happy with results) - send me a demo, I'll help you out. Music production is not easy and mixing is only a one part of it. We'll find the problem and a solution.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been producing and mixing music full-time for 8 years (as for 2020). Have a musical degree (piano). Also decent guitar player and a little bit of drums.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Nothing is ever can be out of tune except for artistic decisions.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: All kinds of rock and metal music. I also love working on pop stuff!
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Mixing big projects (lots of elements), top notch vocal editing.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Beside, of course, great sounding mixes you can expect me to add some light post-production (fxs, electronics) and carefull editing (if needed) for that modern and polished (in a good way!) sound. I treat my client's songs as my own and every detail wiil be taken care of.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Mixing and mastering all kinds of rock/pop-rock and metal music, often with tons of electronics/post-production. Polished, modern sounding productions (accurate editing, carefully crafted mixes) are my specialization.
