Chandrani Banerjee is an Indian singer and songwriter. She has worked primarily with the Rock and World Music band Krosswindz, her voice has graced albums of Krosswindz,Mohiner Goraguli, and Bhoomi, she has also been featured in many world music albums worldwide.Best known for her unique and mellifluous voice and heartfelt singing,Chandrani is currently the lead vocalist and songwriter of Krosswindz.
Chandrani has performed extensively across the USA on two international concert tours in 2007 and 2009 and Europe in 2017.she is trained in Rabindrasangeet from Late Devdas Mandal and trained in folk music from folk exponent Late Anil Sarkar.she has sung for many films of which the award-winning film “Way Back Home” won the BBC Audience Award at the Commonwealth Film Festival UK.
She along with Vikramjit Banerjee(Tuki) have also recently composed and done the music direction for film Ujaane Poddo Bhashe yet to be released.
she was nominated for the Grassroot Grammy’s(JPF) held in Nashville for 2 consecutive years for her rendition of a folk song “Tangra Tobu Takon Jaye ” and her composition” Jajabor Pokkhi” respectively. Her band Krosswindz was nominated for best Indian album for the album” Misiki Misiki” at the Grassroot Grammy’s(JPF) also.She was awarded The LBF Visionary

Chandrani is a superlative singer, I have never come across another vocalist that can sing the things that she can, her versatility is just jaw-dropping, from super-smooth Folk to High Energy rock there is no style that she cannot sing, but I feel the most alluring thing about her singing is her heartfelt emotion, her voice is simply heart touching. Highly recommended, anybody having the means to collaborate with her will be supremely rewarded by her touch.

Interview with Chandrani Banerjee

Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I am working on the filmscore for a film being made by a New Zealand based filmmaker and i am also recording a vocal session for an electronic music producer out of London.
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I am really proud of my Grassroot Grammy JPF Award-nominated album Jhora Palok,i composed a bunch of the songs on there and sang lead vocals and wrote the lyrics for all of the 7 songs on the album.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Yes i would like to recommend Vikramjit Banerjee, he is a great guitarist and producer,one of the best in the world.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: I prefer Digital for the clean sound though sometimes Analog gear can also be useful to add warmth to overly digital sounding tracks.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: i promise that they will get a pristine vocal performance with great skill and emotion.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: It brings out things in me which i never knew had to offer to the world, plumbing the depths of my emotional world i often uncover these gems in forms of songs and vocal passages that i would never have imagined even in my wildest dreams that i have so much to offer to the world.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Customers usually want to know how soon i can send them a finished vocal recording,and my answer is usually 7 days.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: People think that its very easy to sing a song and it takes very little effoer,this is a huge misconception and i think Singing is probably the most difficult aspect of being a recording and performing musician.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I ask what kind of feel they are looking for and also find out if the key of the song is changeable or not.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: I would like them to provide me a guide track and a reference track for the style of vocals that they are looking for and lyrics to the song that is to be recorded.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: I would take my Ukulele,my phone with my entire music collection on it,Headphones,a notebook and a pen
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I have been on this music ship professionally since 1995,i started off as a solo Singer Songwriter and eventually joined legendary Indian Rock Fusion band Krosswindz as their vocalist in 1999.I have worked on several side projects including Film Soundtracks and am presently working on the film soundtrack of an independent film for a New Zealand based Film Maker..

Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would like to work with Peter Gabriel because i feel he is one of the most creative producers and an excellent collaborator who brings out the best in their peers.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: One tip would be=sit with a set of colored marker pens while working on the lyrics sheet of paper, and assign various colours to passages in the song to make it easier to know and remind yourself as to how you envision each passage.

A: Singer-Songwriter
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is my voice control and agility in tackling complex vocal passages.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring a very deep emotional connect and pour my soul into the delivery,i make it a point to emotionally internalize the lyrics so that the emotions become a part of me and thus during recording it comes out in the performance
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I first sit with the lyrics sheet and map out the song and special parts that need a vocal emphasis or a part that is particularly critical to the success of the song and flesh out performances for the same, then i go for a barrage of takes which is spread over a couple of days and stop recording only when I feel that I have captured an ample number of good takes.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My studio is a very well equipped space with good acoustic properties with a multitude of outboard gear and plugins,i have a decent collection of microphones to choose from and a stable DAW,I use Reaper as my main DAW though i have access to Ableton, Studio One and Cakewalk too

A: I love multi-instrumentalists and beat composers and talented producers like Tuki from Krosswindz
