Out of the box analog and digital hybrid mixing is my niche.
With 32 years professionally in the studio business, including major label work in the 1990s, I combine the analog and digital worlds for hybrid mixes full of saturation, clarity, and warmth. Depending on the sound of the tracks I receive, I often transfer some to my 2" tape machine and then back to Pro Tools before the mix begins. Most of the processing I do is done out of the box, as your tracks are routed through my analog console and outboard gear, before returning to Pro Tools ...plugins are occasionally used, but sparingly, since I have much of the real gear that they are emulating and I want my mixes to sound different since more mix engineers these days are understandably opting for 100% mixing in the box for the sake of simplicity. I do not use somebody else's facilities, rather I own my own commercial studio, including the building and everything in it.
I have mixed all kinds of music, but my process and technique are most noticeable with real and natural, well-recorded instruments, such as heard in various singer/songwriter, folk, rock, acoustic/pop, and jazz music styles.
