Rich was awesome to work with. He gave me a tight groove that fit the song perfectly. I'd definitely recommend working with him.
I've worked with Rich for over 10 years in studio and live on stage. He is professional, punctual, and brings a positive energy to all projects he's involved in. Rich's number one goal is to serve the song. On top of all this he is an incredibly talented Drummer, Percussionist, Producer, and Mixer. Look no further!
I’ve done a number of sessions in studio with Rich: his playing, musicality, and tone are top notch. Highly recommend!
Interview with Rich DaSilva
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Are there any songs you can reference for parts? Song references for tones? Who do you like to listen to? When do you need the project completed? Do you want stems or a stereo mix? How much processing do you want on the drums?
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been a professional musician for over 15 years, been playing in bands for over 20 and playing drums for over 25 years. I went to jazz school but my love for recording started when I was young. After school I began playing around Toronto in bars and clubs, that allowed me to meet some amazing musicians and build relationships. I then began touring north America and parts of Asia for the last several years. I now have a production team with my 3 best friends and band mates.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: An old school approach with a modern touch, feel and sound.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Quarter note click with a shaker loop, helps things feel more natural and can move if you want it to.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I work on a lot of pop country as well as rock, soul and RnB.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Looking at the bigger picture. I'm always trying to see how everything will fit together to make the song work.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I've always thought of myself as a song drummer only playing exactly what I feel the songs needs.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I usually get a scratch track or a fully produced demo and from there I'll figure out what mics and drums will work best for the project. I'll then record and ship off my stems or a stereo mix depending on what you need.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I can record up to 18 tracks of drums, Everything runs through UAD Apollo 8's and a Twin. I have a lot of high end mics and can swap stuff out depending on the session and type of music.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Aaron Sterling, Dan Bailey,
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I do a lot of live drum recording, percussion overdubs and some editing.
