Another great track with Oliver! Just like the previous track we worked on, this was well prepared, presented to me with clear goals and communication, and was a blast to record drums to! The finished result turned out great, and I look forward to working with Oliver again in the future.

Oliver is great to work with! The song that we recorded was well written with attention to detail before I even began recording on my end, which made the process fun and enjoyable. The communication was great, and made it easy to focus on the best parts for the song, and the end result turned out great! Looking forward to working with Oliver again!

Interview with Oliver Kling
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: Emotion
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Consider whether a baritone/heroic tenor (like me) is what brings your song to life and supports the emotion your song needs. Also, think about whether the song is in the right key for the singer, as this quickly determines if the song works or not. Pitching it can alter the fundamental vibe.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Emotional, Intimate, Dark, Indie, Unique - my voice comes alive through doubles, backings, and crowd voices.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I release songs with my project - every two weeks one new song (:
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both - digital because it's so easy to manage, reproduce, etc. But analog stuff makes the signal sound expensive what vsts can't ;)
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Try to "catch a feeling" instead of processing the shit out of your music π₯³
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: EDM, House music, Dance, Techno, ..
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Efficiency - I can finish songs within 8-12h from scratch until the master
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Emotion and expensive sounding vocals
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: My process usually involves building a framework of chords and a rough arrangement. I then dive straight into pre-recordings by starting with lyrics. Once these are finalized, I move on to finding the melody and begin recording. I comp the vocals until they are spot on for the lead vocals. After that, I record doubles, backings, adlibs, etc. By this point, I've usually connected emotionally with the song and record everything that helps make the song unique. Next, I move on to my production and start with vocal processing. I then finalize the production, which goes incredibly quickly because the vocals play a significant role in the song creation. I can now complete an entire song from sketch to master in 8-12 hours.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Over the years, my studio equipment has grown. I primarily use my MacBook (M1) and RME Babyface, along with mixing on Audeze LCD-X headphones for recording. Depending on what suits the song, I record vocals with one of my three microphones: a clone of the ELA M 251 that sounds like a $2-3k microphone, Neumann TLM 103, or Shure SM7B. These run through my Neve Preamp 1073lb 500. When I fully produce a song, which often makes sense to maintain the vocal feeling with the production, I frequently use Neve MBT, SSL Fusion, and various VSTs on the master - whatever the song needs to sound cohesive.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: A lot of other artists inspire me. It could be the sound, emotional lyrics, or the way they sing. I try to approach the song holistically: what makes the vocals work so well? Is it the melody, emotion, signal processing (equipment), word choice, or performance? Even a poorly recorded vocal can become a global hit because it's all about the feeling. If a song has achieved that, the genre doesn't matter, which is why I listen to anything I think has that "ear candy."
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I focus primarily on capturing a feeling and delivering vocals that elevate the song to the next level. Through comprehensive vocal production and processing, my clients' songs receive the professionalism they need to compete at the next level. Paired with a "high-end sound" in the form of quality microphones and preamps, this approach should achieve the desired results.
