Mark is my go to my right hand with the music!
Takes time with the vision and just like me he focuses on quality over quantity. Honest and upfront. Mixed and mastered a few of my tracks and overseas most because his 2 cents are very valuable!

Interview with Mark "Mach Keys" Collantes

  1. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  2. A: What else do you do? A-Z whatever people need help with, I’m there to be a body and person to help however I can. As best as I can.

  3. Q: How would you describe your style?

  4. A: Urban / Pop.

  5. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  6. A: Drake, and to see if I can get some of his mind on how he’s managed to kill the game and stay relevant for how long he’s been in the scene.

  7. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  8. A: Being able to help others fill in gaps, or develop on their weaknesses.

  9. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  10. A: Computer - Macbook Pro (16gb RAM, Intel i7 Quad Core, SSD 1TB HD). // Gear - Apollo Twin X, AKG C214, sE shield, Sennheiser HD 280 Pro, M-Audio Keystation 49es

  11. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  12. A: I've been involved with music most of my life. // I learned the Piano at 5, and developed into Songwriting & Production in High School. Then picked up Engineering in College. // Upon graduating as an honorary Audio Engineering student with an Associates of Science Degree in 2016, I interned for a couple Los Angeles Recording Studios which were homes to some of today's biggest names in the industry and got to learn what it took to craft billboard charting and grammy winning music first-hand. And eventually lead to opportunities to sessions I would later be able to contribute to at the professional industry level.

  13. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  14. A: When clients come to me with a song.. they acquire someone who is open to contributing however my skills would fit best for the project. Whether it be Engineering, Songwriting, or Producing, I help in anyway possible to see the fullest potential of the client and their song(s) from the point it has been submitted to me to the point that I return it serviced.

  15. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  16. A: Getting to meet new people, contributing to new music, and exploring different ways to do things to making the best possible quality that we can.

  17. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  18. A: Analog - if it's available in the studio. Digital - to save money.

  19. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  20. A: Revamping my music career back up. // I took a hiatus for some years to work on clearing my loans, and helping my family and close peers with their own pursuits in various fields. And more recently being more public about it all while re-shifting back into music.

  21. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  22. A: Urban / Hip-Hop / Pop is my primary and preferred styles, but I am open to all others.

  23. Q: What's your typical work process?

  24. A: It varies based off of what I have to work with, or what talents present to me before me becoming apart of the project. But I like to get personal and get to know whom I work with, hear their influences, and then see their vision for the submitted project.

  25. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  26. A: I'm NOT a DJ.. lol

  27. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  28. A: Who are their aspirations & influences? What's their goals for the song?

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Don't try to force anything out, and allow yourself to put out finished projects to have a growing track record to allow fans to hear your growth and various styles. // Let life inspire you, and be mindful of the context you are creating.

  31. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  32. A: Russ, !LLmind, The Stereotypes, D'Mile, Hitmaka, Prince Chrishan, Tone Jonez, Superstar O, EpikTheDawn, COBRA., Anywaywell, amongst several others.

  33. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  34. A: Recording, Mixing & Mastering, Beats & Instrumentals

  35. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  36. A: Pro tip - Have your song Fully Written, Rehearsed, and Locked In. // Saves us both Time, Money, and Pain of trying to finish a song. A more seasoned artist will know what they want from a song, or at least be ready to perform from start to end as if they are performing live. This allows me to cut straight to the chase and figure out ways to push it to new levels, rather than having to wait for something to be able to work with. // At least at that point, I know the client will leave the session with something they can listen to at full length.

  37. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  38. A: Almost what I have now lol - Macbook Pro, Apollo Twin X, M-Audio Keystation 49es, Sennheseir 280 Pro HD, and a Neumann u87.
