Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

A: I recently contributed vocals to my friend Jan's project, Ensemble Desiderum. He wanted layers of ethereal vocals, but also some spoken word which was really fun and interesting to do!

Q: What are you working on at the moment?

A: Too many projects to mention! I am currently mixing a track that is a mix of Medieval music and Heavy Metal.

Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

Q: Analog or digital and why?

A: My studio is a hybrid of analog and digital and I think this is a great contemporary solution. It brings the clarity of digital, but also the character and warmth of analog.

Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

A: I will put a lot of time, consideration and care into the vocals for your song. I never rush a job.

Q: What do you like most about your job?

A: My favourite part of a job is meeting musicians from all over the world and hearing their enthusiasm for their music.

Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A: Customers often ask me if I can come up with original parts for their song, and I will always have ideas.

Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

A: That it isn't very technical! Recording studio-quality vocals requires plenty of technical knowhow-- there's a lot you can get wrong that can really ruin a mix.

Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

A: Tell me more about your project and the sound you are looking for.

Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A: Listen carefully to a demo reel and make sure it has different examples, so you know that someone has a good level of experience across various projects.

Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

A: My MDR-7506 headphones for tracking, because they are transparent. My laptop, because it has all my numerous plugins! My LA2A Tube Compressor, because it gets such a smooth sound on vocals. My Neumann TLM103 because it's so cute-looking. My SM57 because it can simply do so much, and is indestructible.

Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

A: I have always sung and made up songs of my own! I taught myself to play guitar aged 13. I got my hands on a 4-track cassette recorder when I was a teenager. I have been learning music production and song writing ever since!

Q: How would you describe your style?

A: Etheral, dreamy, imaginative, unorthodox

Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

A: I'd love to work with Tom Biller- Producer.

Q: Can you share one music production tip?

A: Always, always use a pop filter when recording vocals! And make sure the cat is not around, haha. Beyond that, I make sure to do multiple takes, and to always try something a bit crazy and experimental.

Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

A: All sorts! I do a lot of Heavy Rock, some Metal, Dark Indie, but also Synthwave and Indie Pop.

Q: What's your strongest skill?

A: I have great musical intuition and will come up with catchy and memorable vocal hooks, and great melodies. As a songwriter myself, I've had my own songs played on BBC Radio 3, and BBC Radio 6 Music. I understand song structures and how to write vocal parts that build a narrative.

Q: What do you bring to a song?

A: If you want something that differs from the mainstream then you've come to the right place! My voice has a unique sound and I'm not trying to imitate anyone. There's a lot of music that all sounds the same at the moment, but I am staying true to my own sound and artistic voice. My voice has a quirky sound and is especially good for ethereal, dreamy and moody soundscapes.

Q: What's your typical work process?

A: Ideally I want to hear your demo (it doesn't matter how rough it is!). I'll improvise some vocal ideas, record them and send them to the client to get their feedback. We work together closely until we get the sound you're after. It brings me a lot of joy to get the sound the client is looking for!

Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

A: I have a Masters degree in Music Technology and my home studio includes professional monitoring, soundproofing, and a broad range of vocal mics to get different sounds, depending on what sound you want.

Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

A: I love Kate Bush for her inventiveness and unique vibe! Joni Mitchell is also a huge inspiration

Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

A: Clients most commonly send me a demo with a rough idea for vocals, and they ask me to come up with a strong vocal idea.
