Working with Tiago was the beginning of a new era for me. An extremely competent and dedicated professional to achieve the best possible result, always taking into account the project proposal. His charisma and simplicity always made me feel comfortable and confident to share my ideas. Every time I hear a finished project, it always goes beyond expectations. As a singer, I love the care he has in maintaining the original vocal interpretation of the recording and how he highlights my voice in the mix. It helped me to understand and find my style, and to understand who I am as an artist. I am pl

It is the second time that I work with Tiago Pollon. I hope to be able to work together again soon. He mixed my productions, and I confess that this second time, some things happened during the production and I had to change the arrangements that were very good for others. It upset me and got discouraged by this song. But after the mixing that Tiago did, the music took on another dimension, gave a new face, super cool and I started to like the music a lot. Their mixes are really cool.

For years I have been mixing, mastering, producing music and arranging with Tiago Pollon at PSP Estúdio.
I'm a Brazilian music artist focused on pop and samba
Through his work, taking care of the arrangements and the sound with great sensitivity, intuition, techniques, and a whole science and know-how, I can always achieve the best results as good impressions generated by the specialized critic, public, visualizations, plays, contracts with record companies, distributors and concert halls.

Tiago worked on the recording of the my band's DVD (Hátrios) as audio engineer and mastering engineer. Since 2017 I have been following his publications on social midias, sharing his knowledge with new music producers and artists, about production and distribute, even on producing, recording, mixing and mastering. I was privileged to have been helped from his. He is an example of professionalism, competence and humility. This year we did one more job, but now with my solo project and it certainly won't be the last to be developed with Tiago Pollon

I met Tiago through his studio, PSP. He is a producer who have a vision "beyond". I had the honor of learning in his course - "Eu Produtor". He executes the target as a sniper. On my new single, with his help I managed to absorb some musical languages that were not part of my guitarrist daily life. Tiago always respected my proposal, but put his spice adding a lot to my music. In "Fusão" He's co-produced, mixed and mastered and we will certainly work together again. In short Tiago is a visionary guy and likes challenges to inspire people to do their best.

Interview with Tiago Pollon

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: Much of the production work in part is problem solving. There was a DVD recording by a sony music artist in which I was not part of the team. During the recordings they had all kinds of problems that you can imagine. So when it arrived the mix the snowball got bigger and more problems appeared. The deadlines tightened and the budget too - they had spent almost 100k until then - It was considered to abort the mission of the DVD. By the indication of the artist himself I was called for mix and solve the problems. When I took the material it took me days to organize audio fragments and lost and damaged files. We make overdubs of the parts they needed, we suffered a lot of pressure and harsh criticisms in that period, I mixed the DVD in 7 days and I finished everything on time. I was already proud enough for I saved 100k and I took the DVD out of the black hole . The following year, I was more flattered to know that the project won the award for best Christian DVD of the year. Just to think that all the effort and work could be wasted. From the trash to the prize. I am very grateful to have had the opportunity and the confidence to give myself something like this.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Currently one of the projects I am working on is the production of the first album by the talented singer Stephanie Klassa.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Stephanie Klassa! She is part of my production team and it is amazing how she improves the melodic lines and helps to create emotion with her vocal production. In addition to developing a beautiful job as a singer. I recommend Stephanie to everyone who wants to improve their vocals or have powerful feminine lines in their music.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Analogically digital and digitally analog. Because it makes work easier and it really is where this is the best for everyone.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I Do not offer hours of my job, I offer satisfaction and results. So, I want the artist to be 100% satisfied with the music and the result of my work.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: The possibility of creating something new, exciting, making it better and unique, making a difference. I am very grateful to work with music, with great musicians, composers and talented artists and to help give them a voice. Art can change the world and I feel blessed to be a part of this.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: Is it possible to obtain a professional result,a radio result at an affordable price? Of course!

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: There are many ... unfortunately ... so for is I also have a channel on youtube (for now in my native language - Portuguese) to try to demystify these things. In general, I think the confusion of production, mix, master and about quality and talent, could be summed up I would say in the people's bet on the machine. people rely entirely on tecnology, like the protools, the computer, the x or y equipment, as for the truth is who does make the work is the human being, composer, music artist, producers and engineers. eu amo a technologia, mas ela nao cria nada, o talento são das pessoas. This is the point of confusion, it is not about a machines is about people.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: If you are a new artist who never works together, I will try to get to know you first, knowing which albums you like to listen to the most. If you already have other jobs I will try to know what you liked and what you didn't like. About the new project in question I want to know what the approach is and what are the references for this work, where it wants to get to.

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: I think the first is, the client to get to know yourself other and know what their needs are. Knowing the criteria and the professional profile that the search is much easier. There is a set of things that lead to perfect combination between artist and professional, be it producer, mixer or masterizer. Things like interpersonal skills, skills, communication and confidence in delivering the final result must be taken into account. Each professional presents their profiles in a different way and each artist has a different need. In the end we are all humans communicating with each other and I think open and direct communication is the key.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: 1. Ns10 2. Protools 3. My focusrite interface 4. Fatso 5. Motif

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I really did things that I am very grateful and proud of ... Today I am a Voting Member of the Latin Grammy, Music Producer and Founding Partner of PSP Estúdio, but ... you know ... some things come from childhood. And I remember that one of my games ... we had a little keyboard, acoustic guitar, microphone and a tape recorder at home, and I liked to make several recordings, compile songs in order and combinations that I liked. I mixed them in the middle of the songs adding excerpts from other songs and sometimes I played or sang something. That was the fun. When I was in high school, I gave music lessons and wrote arrangements, played at night and did events, when I entered college I started to get involved with the studio until I started mine. I worked with several artists such as Luiza Possi, Agnaldo Rayol, Chrigor, Gshytt, PG, Maestro João Carlos Martins, Gabi Luthai, as well as major labels like Sony and Deck Disck, big companies like Walmart (USA) and Decolar (BRA), with works broadcast on major broadcasters including Multishow, Canalbis, TVZ, MTV, Mix TV, Radio Kiss FM, I had articles published in the two biggest magazines in the music industry, Rolling Stone and Billboard. I was on the cover of SEBRAE magazine as a successful Entrepreneur, in addition to the “Louvemos ao Senhor” Award for best Catholic DVD. With the support of Focusrite Brasil, I created the EU Produtor program, which is an online portal with training and qualification courses for the development of new producers. In order to launch new artists and foster the independent music market, I created the TP Records music label.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: Despite I have a chameleon style, some things are always present, such as punch, definition, brightness, big and pleasant sound.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: u2. great voice, great musicians great songs. U2 definitely influenced the modern sound, the delays, the vibe, the rock, innovation and the message. and of shure because they have bono kkk.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: here is The holy trinity. 1. Keep the big picture in your mind. know exactly what sound you want first of all. Know where the artist wants to go with the music and have references to help illustrate 2. Don't be afraid to create and the make mistakes, create a vibe and record exactly how you want it, you can record a clean split signal just for safety, in case you find out later that you overreactedsomething and want to go back. 3. Listen at low volume and with your ears, not your eyes.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: Songs with many tracks and many layers. acoustic or electronic or both. Such as pop, indie, singer and songwriter, Soul, RnB, Latin also Pop Rock, Rock, Gospel and Lots of live material for DVD or promotion (here is living all of problem types hehehe).

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: Although I graduated in classical music (or maybe that's why) I Always see everything as a big mix, I am never stuck in a stage of production, I can suggest or fulfil to requests to redo a musical structure in mastering for example, I add intros, interludes, final, every kind of cuts and recording, I do anything I feel can improve that song indenpendly of the production stage. Often the way are bizarre but they work. I don't do a production and I think “ok I'm just producing now then I'm going to limit myself to things that are done in this stage” I produce thinking about recording, mixing and mastering. I'm always one step ahead. I believe that, in that sense, creativity, confidence and an open mind help me not be content with just good.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: Independly what i m doing in a song, producing, recording, mixing or mastering, I will bring to life and adjust to the right emotion. Currently, more than ever, the artist need to make unique songs, with personality,it has to be exciting, emotional, impactful and needs to be remembered in the minds of the listeners, this is what I try to do in all songs that I work. This requires a completely unique treatment for every single song, its not "just one more song", it is "the song". You know, sounds are just sounds, but you put together in the right way for to create really special atmospheres.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: First of all, it is knowing what the artist's vision for that song. I do a brief study (questionnaire) with the artist to know his vision, Where he wants to get with the music and what kind of message does he wants to send. Sometimes the artist is lost, so I help to find a way. Then, when Im ready, I have the map of the mine. So, I put my hands on the job and when I delivery the answer is usually: “it was exactly what I wanted”

  39. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  40. A: Many artists and profissionals inspire me, like Etta james, Aretha Franklin, Tom Jobim, Elis Regina, Elvis Presley, Ray Charles, Hendrix, Beatles, Rolling Stones, James Brown, Pink Floyd, Rush, Amy Winehouse, Adele, Bruno Mars,Quincy Jones, Mick Guzauski, Chris Lord-Alge, Jaquiere King, Tony Maserati, Al Schimitt... many others...

  41. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  42. A: Mixing, Mastering, Co-Production, and Ghost Production work. I have many clients that want a mix and master at first, but then I assist them with additional production to take their tracks to the next level.

  43. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  44. A: I work with a hidrid system. I have a Pro Tools rig with an Focusrite Clarett 8 Prex converter and a ton of plug-ins. I monitor through a ns 10. For Recording, Mix and Master I use the Avalon 737 and the fatso. For Fx the lexicon PCM 92 and the SPX Yamaha into the 01v desk.
