Endorse Mark DasousaInterview with Mark Dasousa
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: I would never take anything to a desert island other than a saw, a hammer, nails, pliers and matches😂
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been doing this for about 20 years. I started studying music at the age of 9. I had my first group at 15. My first 4-track tape at 18. At 25 my first homestudio. Since then I have produced about 150 works with all kinds of projects and styles.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Chameleonic
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I like working with emerging artists. See how they grow and watch them achieve their goals. Although this is not always the case, working with established artists is usually more complicated as there is less creativity. Responsibility weighs more on them.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: The creative process is the most important in a production. If there is no interesting idea there is nothing to produce.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: In my work, whenever the project allows it, I try to use Pop resources, some electronics and also alternative Rock.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: It depends on what you need. Sometimes I can be drastic and change structures and the original sound and sometimes I stick more to the established script. I discuss this before with the client and we make a consensual decision.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I usually receive proposals from groups. My job is to pre-produce its songs, I return a demo with my corrections. Once the objective has been clear on both sides, we begin the recording. During the recording I make decisions about the material we will use. (Guitars, Amps, Drums, sound libraries). I work vocal harmonies. Then I add post-production if necessary. Next I mix and master.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Working with Logic.X, I combine quality software with an SSL 6032 E analog console. Yamaha NS-10 and Adam S3-A Monitors.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Producers: George Martin. Chris Lord-Alge. Rick rubin Musicians: Jeff Buckley, Radiohead, Greenday, Muse, Biffy Clyro, Arctic Monkeys, Air, Daft Punk, Jamiroquai, Coldplay, Michael
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
