Pop Music Producer

Jake Leaney on SoundBetter

Pop and indie pop producer with a knack for finding the FUN in your songs!

Hey, I'm Jake - a moustache'd producer & writer with a passion for helping you find the fun in your songs. If you're down to get jiggy with it, read on!

You should hire me if you are in the realm of pop, indie pop, alt pop, singer-songwriter, and would like me to:
- Help you develop a strong artistic vision
- Take an acoustic song and turn it into a full production
- Workshop/finish pre-existing songs/productions
- Be a producer or topliner for a songwriting session

In particular, I am passionate about working with emerging artists to help develop their sound.

I work out of my home studio and a range of studios, and with a mix of other great engineers/producers.

My background includes working at the acclaimed Sing Sing Studios in Melbourne and with producers/writers like Dean Tuza (The Rubens, Stella Donnelly), K-Pop writer/producer Alina Smith (Red Velvet, Itzy), Pip Norman (Baker Boy, Kate Miller Heidke), and Aaron Dobos (Matt Corby, Alex Lahey). Some other things I'm proud of are being a category winner and semi-finalist in the International Songwriting Competition, and performing on the TV show 'Thank God You're Here'.

I ensure safe and comfortable collaborations and take pride in being part of and working with people in the LGBTQIA+ music community.

I love a good chat so send me a message about what you're working on!!

<3 Jake

Interview with Jake Leaney

  1. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  2. A: Hayley Williams, Jack Antonoff, Sabrina Carpenter, Porter Robinson, James Taylor, ABBA, Max Martin.

  3. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  4. A: Taking a demo (acoustic or with some production) and turning it into a finished track.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: John O'Reilly / Boom Crash Drums - the funnest and most professional session musician I've ever worked with.

  7. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  8. A: Collaboration!! Bouncing ideas and vibes between 2 (or more) people is just so fun. You end up with songs that no individual person would have got to on their own, and it's a really special feeling to share that.

  9. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  10. A: What brings you the most joy when creating music? What song of yours is the most YOU? What scares you about songwriting or making music? How do you know when you'll feel proud of a song?

  11. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  12. A: Treat music production like improvisation on an instrument; just PLAY with it and let yourself make mistakes and make things that aren't that good. Eventually you'll find the fun!
