    Interview with Tristan Blaskowitz

    1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

    2. A: My biggest project was "Bedtime Story - Live In Concert". It was the live performance of a video game soundtrack I wrote. I was composer and director and we had a big orchestra on stage together with children playing the narrators while the player character was played by an actor which was built into the video game by green screen. It was awesome! You can find the concert on YouTube.

    3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

    4. A: I'm always working on new personal music projects and albums to release on streaming services.

    5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

    6. A: Ffion Elisa! I worked with here on two songs of mine and she is the best pick if you are looking for a haunting fantasy voice!

    7. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

    8. A: We will work on the project until you are 100% satisfied.

    9. Q: What do you like most about your job?

    10. A: Creating touching sounds out of nowhere.

    11. Q: How would you describe your style?

    12. A: Mike Oldfield without guitar

    13. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

    14. A: Justin Hayward He is my favourite singer. I would like to produce a song with his vocals on.

    15. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

    16. A: Soundtrack, Orchestral, Classical, Piano solo, Rock/Pop, Ambient, Electronic

    17. Q: What do you bring to a song?

    18. A: I like to bring in uncommon sounds and textures to create the perfect fantasy settings. Choir, voices, world instruments combined with classical instruments.

    19. Q: What's your typical work process?

    20. A: We will start with a meeting in person or via zoom and discuss the project. I want to hear the story of the video game or movie. I'm also a gamer, I would like to play the game to get a feeling of the tempo of the game, the events and the moods. I start with simple piano sketches usually and start to orchestrate after that.

    21. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

    22. A: I work in my studio at home with a big setup if hardware synths, software synths and sample libraries.

    23. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

    24. A: Mike Oldfield: He is my absolute hero. I love how he combine rock, classical and world music with lush arrangements and simple but beautiful melodies. He mastered "minimal" music for me. Repeating pattern and melodies but keeping them always interesting through the mix of instruments, voice and colours.

    25. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

    26. A: I compose orchestral, electronic and ambient music for video games or film. I create leitmotivs for characters, events and locations, time-synced music for cutscenes and loopable mood tracks for background music. Very important is to create a concept before starting on a video game or film project, Choosing the right world of sound and instruments is important to tell the story and give the player a chance to immersive into the world.
