Natalie Purton on SoundBetter

I'm a highly experienced Session Violinist. Performances with Pulp, Michael Buble, Belle & Sebastian, Cinematic Orchestra, JAMES and The Courteeners.

Natalie is a classically trained Violinist and Viola player, and is in demand as a session player in studios across the UK. She works regularly with artists such as Richard Hawley, Thea Gilmore, Paul Heaton & Jacqui Abbot and she can be heard on many of The Courteeners records including 1st violin on the 'St Jude - rewired' Album.

Natalie has recorded on numerous soundtracks for TV and film including 'Fattest Man In Britain' (Badly Drawn Boy), 'Funny Cow' (Richard Hawley), 'I am Dragon' (Simon Finlay), 'The Runaways' (Andrew Swarbrick) and the title music for Peter Kay's 'Comedy Shuffle'. She has also provided music for Trevor Jones (KFC ads) and Jarvis Cocker (Big Melt soundtrack and Serafina Steer album).

Library music sessions include work with Audio Network and Ameritz Music.

She regularly plays with orchestras including in the BBC Philharmonic, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and the Halle Orchestra, and chamber ensembles such as Manchester String Quartet and London Concertante. She also tours with bands and singer songwriters.

You can send Natalie a scored part or she can work from midi/score her own part.

Natalie is a go to, get stuff done person. She can put you in touch with arrangers and other instrumentalists. She also works as a fixer for the Up North Session Orchestra and has studio contacts across the country.

  1. Review by Mark L.

Natalie is a "clean and accurate" musician. Both her music performance and her partner's high efficiency in communication have clearly helped me to complete the cooperation. Their playing is harmonious, and they are able to maintain a harmonious intonation and emotional processing despite a diverse string arrangement. Thanks again.

beautiful playing and great to work with!

  3. Review by Miles C.

Top-notch violinist (and violist). Single-handedly made my track sound like it was recorded by a chamber orchestra -- totally remote with her own equipment. As a cellist I've literally spent thousands of hours playing in orchestras and she made this sound legit to my ears. Took direction well, on time and a pleasure to work with. Natalie's a pro. Hire her!

Natalie is amazing. Quick turn around, did exactly what I was hoping for (and then some) and picked up the vibe of the piece easily. Highly recommend!

Looking forward to working with her again!

I was over the moon with the remote recording Natalie sent me - her performance was just what I was looking for and the sound quality was mint. I was a little nervous about getting the right performance for my project but I found Natalie to be extremely easy to work and I got exactly what I wanted :)

Interview with Natalie Purton

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: I am always working on library tracks for clients and sorting 'in person' sessions with larger ensembles and string sections

  3. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  4. A: I loved adding a remote Violin line to Andrew Swarbrick Westworld competition entry. It was so satisfying to play and I thought his style really worked for the clip

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Yes, I recommend Liz Hanks - Cellist.

  7. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  8. A: I will get it right for you

  9. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  10. A: I love creating something that exists out there for ever!

  11. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  12. A: ask for more clips - my best clips are on YouTube!

  13. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  14. A: my violin, my viola, my bow, a gazebo to keep out of the sun, a pencil and paper

  15. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  16. A: I have always been in the studio. I play with orchestras and ensembles Live but since about 2014 I have been working in studios regularly

  17. Q: How would you describe your style?

  18. A: I'm pretty traditional but if something is scored, I can play it

  19. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  20. A: I would have loved to have worked with Freddie Mercury, I think that would have been quite an experience

  21. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  22. A: Have the best gear

  23. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  24. A: I usually work on classical and pop library tracks and pop records, advert pitches and film scores

  25. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  26. A: Efficiency

  27. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  28. A: The quality of my instrument speaks for itself, its pure sound is pretty rare. I love to add a bit of class and character to a violin line.

  29. Q: What's your typical work process?

  30. A: It usually starts with a discussion followed by receiving a score. I record the line as efficiently as I can so there is time for any alterations that may need to be done. I like to get things done, so I have a fast turnaround.

  31. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  32. A: I have a great little room in the house dedicated to recording music, I have treated the walls and I use a close mic to get the purest sound from my lovely old violin

  33. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  34. A: Anyone who is efficient and hardworking.

  35. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
