Arthur was extremely responsive and willing to get the best sound and overall mix, according to my composition. Mixing a solo double bass, WELL, is very difficult depending on the player and the team behind it. We are very pleased with the attention that went into enhancing the story that we were telling.
Interview with Arthur Walter
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I have a lot of influences. Top Hollywood composers such as Alan Silvestri, Ludwig Gorranson, John Powell, Christopher Beck, Lorne Balfe, Thomas Newman, Michael Giacchino, etc... I'm also inspired by video games composer like Gordy Haab, Stephen Barton, Neal Acree, Pedro Camacho. There are splendid pieces of music everywhere.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My studio is the result of years of work. I have a fully operational setup that a lot of colleagues you would love to have. The desk is handcrafted, the room treatment was also made on-demand. On the hardware side, I'm using a 2 Mac Pro and, a Mac Mini UAD Sound Cards and RME Mastering-grade DAC, along with some other audio gear. I have all the power needed to compose, mix and master a professional track.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Be comfortable with failure and find a composer who is also comfortable with failure. That's how you go beyond limits.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: A violin, a viola, cello, a timpani, and a triangle. The strings to craft bows if needed. A timpani to scares animals at night. A triangle to fix fishes and keep them off the ground.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I'm a former director and trailer artist. I used to work in the game industry for a few years. I know what looks cool, and what sounds good (especially both together.) I've been composing music on a more regular way since 2018.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Hard to say. Hollywoody-videogames style?
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would like to work with many singers and work more on pop-orchestra records. I would love to work with Sigrid.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Never use a plugin or an effect because someone else does. You must do it for a reason. Always.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Orchestral instrumental
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Composition and mixing are my strongest point.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: A whole symphony environment. A mood. An audio experience.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: The first step is sketching. I compose a general idea for the client to get early feedback. If I'm on the right path, the real composing process starts. Once done, all the tracks are printed and are imported into a mixing template, where I carefully clean and mix all the instruments together. Then comes the mastering process to finalize the track.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Theme track for video games of documentary score are the most popular requests from my clients.
