Endorse Juan Camilo ArboledaOne of the most accomplished and thorough arranger / composer / orchestator i've had the pleasure of working with. His writing abilities and creativity are second to none and man, his credit list is impressive. His string / orchestral arrangements are so imaginative (and also very well laid-out in terms of frequency ranges within competing instruments) so you should definitely check out Juan's work. You can thank me later :-)
I have known Juan Camilo for over 10 years. He is probably the most talented young arranger/orchestrator/composer in America. I've had the pleasure to be hired by Juan and I can attest his work is impeccable, and I can tell you he is the fastest score writer you'll find!!! I have also hired Juan Camilo for my own productions and he has always exceeded my expectations. Your work could not be in better hands with him!!
Interview with Juan Camilo Arboleda
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: Wow, so far I orchestrated cues for an attraction at NASA, got to live a dream and record with the London Symphony Orchestra. An item off the bucket list!
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Absolutely! Maria Elisa Ayerbe - Best mixing engineer I've worked with. Camilo Silva - Best mastering engineer I've worked with.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I'll do the best I can.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: The array of genres i get to work on, the people, the music.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That it's unnecessary or too expensive.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Why is this important to you? What are you looking to tell here? Why is this scene important? For when do you need the final delivery? How open are you to suggestions?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Don't get carried away by their previous works, see if they listen, really listen, you'll see how good they are on the first draft by the emotional vector of their work.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Piano, pen and paper.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: 15 years in the business, worked with big names and not so big, loved every project i've worked on. Each one brings it's own challenges and rewards.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: John Williams, I've always been a huge fan of his work.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Yes, Look for interesting melodies that complement the main melody. It makes music sound rounder.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I've worked from Urban to Metal, Classical to contemporary. My work has been very varied across the years.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Melody writing, I think nothing beats a catchy melody, accompanying or leading.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: My experience and a willingness to do things the right way.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I listen to what they're looking for, ask for references or and emotional map of what they want, after that I set pen to paper and go over the necessary drafts to get exactly what they're looking for.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Arranging songs for pop musicians, and orchestration/ghost writing for composers. In arranging the work i usually do is strings, top melody and re-harmonizing. For composers it's usually orchestration and getting the music ready for performance/recording.
