Angelo Carretta

Grammy Winning Audio Engineer

Angelo Carretta on SoundBetter

I'm co-owner of Sunset Studios in South Miami, FL and the senior engineer for Neon.16, headed by urban producer Tainy. My ears come equipped with eight years of intensive classical music training and ten years of diverse production experience. Frequencies and patterns fascinate me, music and lyrics move me. Let's Vibe.

When you work with me, you work with a professional with a wide range of knowledge and skills. Whether it's a demo to be sent to an A&R or a final mix that's going off to mastering, I'm here to get your songs sounding finessed and radio/streaming ready. My sound is clean, crisp, big and punchy- just ask my clients and collaborators!

I've been in music studios for about a decade, starting at South Beach Studios under mixing legend Tom Lord-Alge. I know the art of maintaining the studio environment and how to bring a "method to the madness" so that you're able to focus and create. Vibes are what can "make or break" a song. Rest assured I only plan to bring my best each and every time.

At Neon.16, I work closely with Tainy and Neon's amazing roster of artists, producers, and songwriters to start and finish records. Sunset Studios is my personal workspace and where my expansive team of long-time collaborators and I come together to make things happen.

Interview with Angelo Carretta

  1. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  2. A: A lot of my work is in mixing, tuning, quantizing, editing, and comping layers of vocals to achieve a cohesive and polished sound.

  3. Q: What's your typical work process?

  4. A: First, I like jamming out to any reference tracks that were submitted with the song to get my ears and mind focused in the right direction. As Vocal producer, I would start with the lead vocal to make it clean and en pointe and then edit each layer one by one, using the lead as the guide. If I were contracted to mix a whole record, I would start from the bottom with the bass and kick, then continue to drums, harmonic elements, melodic elements, sfxs, and finally vocals. Most often than not, ending with a custom mastering chain.

  5. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  6. A: I co-own/work out of Sunset Studios Miami, where we have two fully insulated and treated studios. The room I work out of comes equipped with a pair of Focal Twin be6's, that's being fed from an Apogee Symphony Mk I, that interfaces with our Mac Mini that comes with Pro Tools, Abelton, and Logic.

  7. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  8. A: Travis Barker and Tom Lord-Alge both have inspired me to embrace my own uniqueness and to enjoy every moment of the process.
