Whether your work is inches from the finish line or you just can't figure out why your chorus falls flat, my office is open for appointments. I specialize in writing and mixing for indie rock/electronic, singer-songwriter, and chamber pop, but the fun lies in my eclectic experiences.

I have been writing and recording my own music for over 10 years now, and I am deeply grounded in every aspect of the songwriting journey. From arrangement to mixing, I've done it all and I can help you without breaking the bank.

Throughout my journey, I have often been equipped with less-than-ideal resources. I am a champion of the "work with what you got" mindset. I don't prescribe to the philosophy that great-sounding tracks only come from Telefunkens and tape machines (though they certainly don't hurt). The tools available today make home recordings more viable with every passing moment, so there are no excuses left to not make great music anymore. I know how to make it work.

I played music in orchestras for 10 years, worked in professional choirs, and started bands from Uncle Jeff's garage. I'm an instrumentalist, a singer, and a performer, so the music always comes first in my process.

My formal education as a Computer Engineer gave me the foundation for the work I do today. I have designed and built audio plugins, repaired plenty of hardware, and paid my dues studying signal processing. I am an excellent problem-solver and my artistic endeavors are always guided with a technically-sound mindset.

As a product of the self-motivated, digital era, I have the skills to capture the essence of your song and help shape it into the song you're hearing in your head.

Moisey, from start to finish, was fantastic to work with. I honestly can't thank him enough for how well he produced, mixed and just generally transformed my song. 10/10 would recommend working with Moisey. Excellent communication and a really personable guy. So pleased with the end result!

I chose Moisey after listening to other works of his and being blown away. Moisey has been wonderful to work with and is extremely skilled at his craft. He produced and mixed my 3-track EP with an attentive ear and thoughtful feedback. He has excellent communication and was truly able to help me capture the exact sounds I was aiming for. Moisey is a hard worker and talented creative who you absolutely want to work with.

Moisey has mixed/mastered my last three tracks and has done INCREDIBLE work on all of them. I don't plan on working with anyone else but him. What I like most about working with him is how well he digests your notes. He understands what you're trying to say even if you have a hard time expressing what you want, which is an invaluable quality in his line of work. He's also patient, and truly cares about your vision. He'll politely offer his own ideas (which have always been fantastic), but will gladly abandon them if they're not in service of your goals. Do yourself a favor and work with Moisey

Moisey did a stellar job mixing and mastering my latest single. He excelled both at interpreting/executing specific technical notes as well as more abstract emotional goals I had for the piece. He's a real Renaissance man and proved to be an insightful collaborator every step of the way, from our first vox session to the final stages of completing the mix. Can't recommend him highly enough!

Interview with Isaiah Egan

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: During the little time I have between freelance projects, I am constantly sifting through my endless amount of personal work. Another album is shaping up, and I couldn't be more grateful. Outside of the innumerable music projects, I work on a podcast that features female artists and artists of color. I produce, record, edit, and master the podcast for the host of the show. This is the kind of work where I get to see new perspectives from artists outside of my medium.

  3. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  4. A: This is a big one, but it is one that I constantly have to make clear to people. Recording is everything. This doesn't mean you need top-of-the-line gear, it just means you need to implement your tools creatively, and in the way that best suits your song. There's a saying that the best EQ is your mic, and there's a lot of truth to that. I constantly challenge myself to make a song sound as good as possible before I ever touch a plugin. Even if you don't have the luxury of an entire mic closet, you can get a HUGE variety of sounds from one mic alone.

  5. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  6. A: I believe my strongest skill is my attention to detail. The broad strokes and the big picture are obviously important, but the details are what really help bring clarity and impact to your work.

  7. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  8. A: Andy Shauf is a huge inspiration for me. Shauf is a do-it-all songwriter from Saskatchewan, and he encapsulates a lot of qualities I try to emulate. His compositions are rich and detailed, but he never fails to deliver a hook. His recordings are nostalgic, yet somehow original, and he creates very lucid environments in his mixes.

  9. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  10. A: My clients typically reach me at the 'I wrote a song, and want to record it and release it' stage, so I wear many hats with my clients, from producer to mastering engineer. I especially love to mix songs and help create a cohesive image from a song, and I also love to coach vocal recording sessions.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: The sheer amount of variety. No two projects are exactly the same, even when I work with the same people. Almost everyone follows the pursuit of bringing something new to their craft, and few things are more exciting than something new.

  13. Q: How would you describe your style?

  14. A: Artistically: Natural, impulsive, intuitive, and clear-minded. A lot of my artistic vision is based around conceptualization. I picture the people involved, the drink in their hand, the light in the room. So much of music is about creating an environment and setting, and I find my best results when I follow those instincts. Profesisonally: Flexible and determined. I don't let obstacles stand in my way, and I love the process of finding creative solutions to spontaneous issues.
