It was such a pleasure to work with Janicka! Plus her vocals were ace and dripping with soul, fervor and magic. I'd work with her again anytime!
Janicka is an amazingly talented singer, song-writer, and ever evolving producer. Her style and vocal range knows no bounds. From Hip-Hop and Jazz, to Soul, RnB and even Pop, Janicka has shown an innate ability to command songs with her powerful voice. I’m ever impressed with her continued growth as an artist and am excited to hear any project she’s apart of!
Janicka is fantastic! She is fun, clever, and driven. Her voice is very soulful and unique, I could listen to her sing forever! Definitely love working with her and plan on continuing to🥰
Janicka is absolutely amazing! She is so full of soul and passion for everything she touches, and have been beyond lucky to create with her on multiple projects throughout the years. Her voice is so magical and the way she plays music is inspiring. Highly recommend her for any project you may be interested in!
One of the most exciting vocal artists I’ve worked with! Had the pleasure of collaborating with Janicka on a couple of projects and she really demonstrates the versatility of the human voice as an instrument. If you want that timeless soulful vibe from on era decades gone by, or if you want a more modern and punchy sound, she’s got you! Janicka is a force to be reckoned with and I recommend her 110% and look forward to future collaborations :)
Janicka and I have worked on a few projects together for television and film. Her willingness to stay open, creative, supportive, and original remains a constant. She puts not only her heart and mind into, but her soul. She is all about "the feels" and won't quit til she not only finds them, but delivers them. She makes you feel heard and connects effortlessly.
Her vocals have a timeless flavor in tone and texture, while running the spectrum right up to current Pop and Hip Hop. She has a signature voice which when heard you not only immediately know it's her, you body feels it. A true gem.
Janicka and I have worked on two albums, one of them being mine. Love her voice and the creative ways she uses her voice and her other considerable skills on projects. I can't wait to make music with her again. Top endorsement from me!
Janicka has a silky, gorgeous, soulful voice and she's extremely versatile! She's also an absolute joy to work with!! LOVE this singer!

Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I will make sure we are on the same page, and that at the end of the project you will have all the reasons to be grateful!
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I don't think there is one thing I like most... the whole process is enjoyable to me. Every layer of completion feels great, and listening back to a finished project is satisfying.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: The amount of computer hours it can rack up.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started writing and singing when I tore my ACL, MCL and meniscus in a snowboarding completion 14 years ago. I bought a guitar on a whim and music instantly became a staple way for me to express myself from them on. I started using a looper, playing at open mics, and eventually using an iOS app to craft and mix loo based songs. A few years back I went through a real rough patch in life; while most things felt amiss, music was still there. At that point I made a deeper commitment to music; I started collaborating and recording, and educating myself on the music business. Last year I took an intensive dive into sync licensing and my world completely blew up. I've worked on all kinds of tracks with all kinds of people and am really inspired by it all. Every day I learn a new skill, or a new angle, or a new component in the process of recording and releasing music and I'm just so enraptured and inspired to get it down and connect with other artists and keep developing as creatives.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Jacob Collier. He's curious, vibrant, brilliant and humble. I like his vision and touring and creating with him someday will be an absolute blast!
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: I'll share 2! If you want character in your track/vocal - do not over perfect the timing and tuning of your stacks! If you want a rich gloss, align and tune the heck out of them;) Vocals stacks that have an ever so slight differentiation to the "color"/tone of each take gives the vocal a beautiful depth.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Hip hop, R&B, Alternative Pop, Singer/songwriter, and Jazz.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Paying great attention to the nuances in a vocal delivery to create an engaging and captivating experience for the listener.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My music room is full of plants, candles and sunshine;). It also holds a MacBook Pro / 2.6 GHz / 16GB memory with a dual monitor, hooked up to a Scarlet Focusrite interface. I work in LogicPro and use either a Beyer Dynamic M-88 or a Senheiser e-935 for vocals, with Beyer Dynamic DT 770 monitoring headphones. My controller is a bit of a beast that I am still getting to know! - a Yamaha Moxf6. Presonus Eris 3.5 monitors, a Yamaha Dreadnaught acoustic, and a crummy home made cajon! Outside of the studio we've got a piano, stand up base and drum kit in the house:)
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I am constantly inspired by Kris Bradley's work ethic and mindset on being a musical professional. I go through phases with artists and often am attracted more to an individual song that an artists whole body of work, but lately I've been enjoying and inspired by the past works of Adele and JAIN.
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: A rhythmic pop track called Dream: ON ... I wrote the lyrics and topline, feature in it and had a great deal of input on the arangement and production. I'm proud off it because it's probably the song I've played the most roles in, it features a unique selection of sounds in it and ris rhythmically very interesting. It makes me want to dance when I listen to it, and it's got a great message, and I had a tone of fun with the ad libs!
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I'm working on learning the ropes of production, finishing up a bunch of sync tracks with co writes, and putting together a modernized 50's / swing/ soul/ jazz album.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: BoomFox, Kimera, & Maria Requena
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Wellll, I romanticize with analog, but for now- digital, because I like the ability to be mobile and work while I'm away from home.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What is the turnaround time? What is the project for? (demo, release, sync?) What key is the song in? Does it change? What is the pitch range of the melody? How do you want the listener to feel? What do you need and where? (Lead, stacks, BGVs, Adlibs, Harms)
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Make sure you speak one another's language. There's nothing more frustrating in a creative project than miscommunication. Be as clear about what you want the final product to sound like - find tracks the exemplify what you are looking for, and describe what it is you like about them. Is it the tone of the voice? Is it the punch in their delivery? Is it the melody, or the range in pitch? The more detail you can give, the more likely you will get what you are looking for:)
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: I'd probably take a towel, and a lifetime supply of aloe, a knife, a water battle, and a tooth brush... I don't need gear too keep the music flowing;)
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I've got a few styles! But these are some running themes: Jazzy, playful and deep. Dynamic, rhythmic and syncopated.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: It depends what the song is wanting to get across. Vocally, I am best at brining depth, soul, emotion, and a kind of intense softness to a song. I am also great at bringing spunk, spirit and flavour to a song. Lyrically I bring compassion to the human experience, as well as a strength and conviction to making the best out of life.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I look over the project details and listen to the reference tracks. Then I listen to the project and take note of any melodies that come out of me. If I am writing lyrics I will freestyle/ free write to get the bulk of my ideas out. I fine tune and shape a couple options, record them on my phone and take a walk to listen back and generate/develop ideas further and send the outcome to my client for feedback. If everything is written, I will warm up my voice, record a couple takes of the first half of the song and then send to the client for any shifts in the direction of my tone/delivery. Once we've got the vibe nailed down, I record each section of the song, do some minor tuning and aligning. I will send out for one more approval before flushing out stacks, harmonies, Ad libs, etc. Then I bounce an MP3 of the final project and send to my client. If all is well, I bounce the stems in the required quality and format and send to client upon receiving payment.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Hooks and features for uplifting Hip hop tracks, and both writing and singing for sync music have made up the bulk of my work.
