I've been doing music for about 15 years, writing songs, singing, and performing both pop and rock music.
For the last 7 years, I've been focusing on different kinds of pop such as synthpop, EDM, ballads, and commercial pop. In addition to working on my own projects, I've helped out several artists doing toplines and vocal work on their projects.
I sing in both English and Norwegian and have experience doing several toplines in both languages.

Interview with Malene Markussen

Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Love to set stories to life. Love making something sad into something beautiful and soulful.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Röksopp. I've always looked up to Rõksopp and how they are able to use unique vocals and interesting melodies into this weird and kind of melancholic soundscape.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I love artists such as Dermot Kennedy, Léon, Birdy, Highasakite, and Vaults. I also love how Sia and Miley Cyrus use their powerful vocals, which I enjoy including in some of my work.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I've done everything from Rock to EDM, but I do the most is pop. I am known for my emotional voice while being able to use my power when it suits the project.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I am working on writing towards Eurovision 2022 both as an artist and for other artists.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Which sound are you after? If any, which are your reference artists?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: I need a track. The better the track, the easier it is to find inspiration and find the right vocals and/or melody for the track.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been writing music since I was 15 so for about 15 years. I started out writing and singing in a rock band before I started doing alternative pop music. In 2016 my path lead me to a more commercial sound. Since 2018, I've been writing and singing on other projects as well where I have experience from EDM and Pop.

A: EDM and Pop music

A: Telling the story with empathy
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I do my best to convey emotions and bring out the story or the core of the song.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I work in the studio with a producer or if I work with producers outside of Norway, I record vocals which I send back as raw vocals which they can use for their projects.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have a very simple setup in my home studio, with Cubase and Focus Right Soundcard using a G4M- MC1 Condenser Microphone
