MDI was a total joy to work for! His song was beautiful and meaningful and very easy to put myself fully into. If you have a chance to work with him, DO IT! You won’t regret it. He’s one of the nicest people I’ve had the pleasure to work for on here. Thank you MDI! I look forward to the next time!

I really enjoyed working with Mark. He's a really great writer and gives great direction while still giving vocal freedom to the singer. I hope we can work together again!
Interview with MDI.
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: The latest music video project completed honoring my Dad. The song and music video were cathartic for me and helped me grieve and heal. He passed March (2019) and to be able to finally write my feelings and film a tribute to him as a personal message is probably the creative work that I'm most proudest of: https://youtu.be/lfvKel8CVWE Additional music videos: https://youtu.be/qs4msQc1Ves https://youtu.be/ts_1QPyceYY https://youtu.be/5eZEsJsX9TY https://youtu.be/4DDPQl_9uMs https://youtu.be/CsLmZKApcCw
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Skyler Harris. Alex J. Debi Selby! They are AMAZING vocalists and once I uploaded the demo for them to follow - they nailed it! Lead, BGV, stacks - they did it all and even offered revisions within about a few hours. Extremely professional and a shining example of the expectation I have of myself as well as others.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: About 20 years earnestly in music production. A lifetime of writing/oratorical ability.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: No preference but anyone (novice or experienced) that I could learn from - I'd jump at the chance to work with.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Don't wait for inspiration - life happens daily. Try to write or create something daily. Life passes quickly.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Any and everything. I write for RnB, the gospel message,country... doesn't matter. I LOVE diversity and it is the main reason Prince inspired me so - he wrote in every genre or style and couldn't be pigeonholed. I do like smooth, grooving RnB, neo-soul slightly more than any genre but lyrics are what inspire me through a well crafted song.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Various tracks. When I'm not working on projects for others, I work on music or music videos that I envision for myself.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Analog - just for the warmth and sound but digital for the ability to get things manipulated or done quickly.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: To give my very best to convey what you want your audience to hear through a collaborative effort.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: To bring another's story to life through my talent.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Haven't gotten a consistent theme of questions yet. ☺
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: Not sure but I don't give it much to any thought. It's futile trying to please everyone and there's someone, somewhere that won't like me or my work. I embrace it because GOD thought enough of me to die for me and loves me. I love me. Whether another likes me or not? Doesn't matter at all.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What are you attempting to say/convey through your song, etc.?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Be willing to communicate (possibly personally) if the song/production/lyric is to be believable to anyone listening to it. I think we have to be transparent if the emotion of a lyric, etc., is to be captured effectively.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Piano/keyboard. Laptop.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Diverse.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Communication. It is a necessity.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: The gift of writing then music production. I don't doubt my gift of telling stories within 4 minutes.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Any phrase, any inspiration, any idea can be molded so it's what I try to do with my work. When composing for others, I have to be able to communicate with and hear their heart before I can write/produce for them. I like for others to feel like I was the 'fly on the wall' that captured their vision for a song, etc. I think that only comes with a connection built through relationship.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Home studio.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Prince. Michael Jackson. R. Kelly. Kirk Franklin. J. Moss. Babyface.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Production (beats/instrumentals), songwriting (lyrics).
