This was my second time working with Vernon and the second excellent song he's sent me to sing. A pleasure, even if some of the notes were higher than my head!!

Wow what an honor to work on this track. The back story is incredible and Vernon was a pleasure to connect with. Clear directions/ideas AND communication + 1 bad A$$ song made this a wonderful experience all around. I hope we work together again :)

Working with Vernon was easy and enjoyable. Communication was always quick and clear between us. On top of that, he sent me a fine song to work with. It's STILL stuck in my head. I wish Vernon the best and look forward to hearing the final mix.

Interview with Vernon Wallace

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: One of my favorite projects was The Pink Method song, "We Will Rise". I really felt like the song was special when I wrote it, but I knew it was good when my mother called and told me she was proud of me for writing it. That meant a lot.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Right now I am mixing a few new tracks for The Pink Method and I am starting a few new orchestral pieces.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: I work with a lot of great singers on Soundbetter. You can find a list on my profile page.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Digital mostly, but I have a few great tube pre amps. Digital is great as long as you can understand saturation.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I will work hard to meet expectations.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: I just love finishing a song and knowing the artist digs it.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: Can you make me sound like this artists? I think an artist needs to sound like themselves. Especially theses day when everyone sounds alike.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: That anyone can do it these days. I have been doing this a while and I have a ton to learn still.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: What is your goal for your song?

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Make sure your vision aligns. Price is great, but you get what you pay for.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: My Breedlove Acoustic My Cordoba Acoustic bass My Kontroll S88 My Apollo x8 My Focal Speakers

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I statrted out playing bass at nine years old and moved forward from there. I have played and toured in rock bands, blues bands, country bands, etc...

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: My style is very groove based. I am always looking for beat that makes you want to tap your feet.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: I would love to work with Ed Sheeran, JellyRoll, Morgan Wallen and Post Malone. These guys all have a great vibe and I feel like they are dedicated and believe in what they are doing. There are also a ton of older artists I would love to work with, but the list is way too long. Can you say Madonna!

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Just listen. Sometime we overthink things. Just let the music speak to you.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: I mainly work on Pop, Pop Rock and Hip Hop.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: My strongest skill is my songwriting. It comes very naturally to me.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: I feel I bring a great perspective because I have worked on so many different types of music.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: I work pretty much all in the box. I downsized my studio about 15 years ago and have never looked back. My clients send me all the stems according to my specifications and I edit and mix everything to their liking. It is not always exactly like they may envision it in their heads, but I like this because it usually turns out better than they expected.
