Brian's work is exceptional. You not only get professional recorded and edited tracks but you get warm communication and timely response. Even the reason and song examples of why he is using certain options on the project. True professional! Will definitely be getting my work from now on.

I've worked with Brandon many times and he never fails to deliver. He has great gear, great tone, and he's quick to come up with some incredible ideas that not only fit the part, but bring life to the track that I had never imagined. He's a good guy to work with and always gives me plenty of options and ideas to work with. Will def hire again

Interview with Brandon Bagby

What are you working on at the moment?
Just finished tracking ukulele yesterday for a producer based in Dallas, TX. The week before, I did electric guitars for a rockin' song for a client in Jacksonville, FL. The day before that, I did electric guitar, acoustic guitar, and ukulele for a client's soulful project out of Dallas, TX. When I joined SoundBetter in April, I tracked electric & acoustic guitars for a producer / composer in New York for a CBS television production! Shortly after that project, I wrapped up arranging music and tracking acoustic guitars on 3 songs for a songwriter's first EP who lives in France! SoundBetter has been an amazing experience and innovative in connecting musicians to artists to producers!
Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
Nick Baumhardt if you would like to work with an excellent producer. We actually work on projects together at his studio in downtown Nashville, TN from time to time.
Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
I recorded the guitars on Audio Adrenaline's song "Move" in 2015. The song has been featured on American sports networks such as NFL, MLB, WWE, & the PGA Tour. It was also picked up by the SONY PSG conference in 2015.
Analog or digital and why?
I love using analog because of the warmth of the sound that is produced. I also like using digital for ease of use. When tracking electric guitars, I usually prefer recording with a mic'd up tube amp.
What do you like most about your job?
It's different everyday and I get to travel the world. Also, with SoundBetter, I am able to work with clients from all over the world.
What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
What are your rates? I typically answer by asking them what their budget is. Depending on the project, the rate will also be affected by the amount of tracks that need to be created to make the project sound best.
What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
5-6 years professionally. I moved to Nashville in May 2009 to begin working in the industry. It took a year and a half to get really connected into the industry. At the beginning of 2011, I was able to begin working in music as a full-time profession.
Which artist would you like to work with and why?
If I were given an opportunity for a pop artist... it would be Katy Perry or Kelly Clarkson. I have always loved the guitar parts on these projects. I would love to work with producer Dann Huff because I love how he uses acoustics, mandolins, banjos, and so many instruments to create a rhythmic landscape.
What type of music do you usually work on?
I primarily work on Christian & Contemporary Worship, Country, Pop, Rock, and even projects for commercial and film.
What's your strongest skill?
I would say playing the best parts that fit the music as a whole.
What do you bring to a song?
Options. I will give a producer multiple tracks to pick and choose from.
What's your typical work process?
I provide multiple parts for the producer to pick and choose from. I will typically start with a rough track that has drums, bass, possibly keys, possibly programming, and a rough vocal. Having a rough vocal is important so that I don't write parts that could step on the vocal.
What's your 'promise' to your clients?
Excellence!
What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
That you have to have the most expensive gear to create the best sounds.
What questions do you ask prospective clients?
What style would you like the project to be, reference other artists/groups. What instruments would you like on the project... what is dominant and secondary? BPM of the project?
What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
I love to work with references. Give me an idea of what artist/group you would like the project to sound similar to.
If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
acoustic guitar, ukulele, electric guitar, tuner, amp
How would you describe your style?
Ambient - Rock - Country - Pop
Can you share one music production tip?
I mic speaker cabinets with 2 SM57's. One mic is on axis. The other is off axis.
Tell us about your studio setup.
I work remotely with an Apollo Twin Duo interface, Apple Macbook Pro, UAD Pluggins, a couple of SM57's for electric guitar tracking and a C214 mic for acoustical instrument tracking. I also use a Kemper Amp Profiler sometimes.
What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
Dann Huff is my favorite producer in country music (Hunter Hayes, Keith Urban, Rascal Flatts, The Band Perry). I love the music of Katy Perry, Kelly Clarkson, and Maroon 5 as far as pop music goes. John Mayer is also an inspiration as to many.
Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
Electric guitar, acoustic guitar, ukulele, mandolin, and banjo tracks.
