I've been doing this for 18 years not only as a career but as a way of living. I've been around music since i was a kid, i don't know any better way to express my self than with music. If there is something i really truly love is the mixing process of making a good record.
My first approach to music was as a drummer. I know what is to come from an independent side of the industry and for that reason i feel that i have a strong connection with independent artists and bands, i love to be a part of the beginning of someone’s career.
My musical background comes from a strong rock side, but as long as i went through learning the art of mixing i fell in love with many different genres, specially the ones i grew up listening as a latin american engineer, there is a folklore side that we can not deny.
I feel that Recording-Producing and Mixing are the things i’ve been doing the most and i expect to do it ny whole life, because i love it.
I’ve worked with mexican / latin artists such as Natalia Lafourcade / Mon Laferte / Juan Solo / Telesis / El Mafud / Evverest / Ximena Mor / Vanens / Commafuck / and many other independent artists.

Amazing producer, great vibe. Not only he will help you achieve the sound you're dreaming of, but he will also enhance your musical ideas and if you're lucky he'll give you some of his own (he's got great music taste and is always looking for the benefit of the song). I highly recommend the "paradise travel" package, you simply won't get enough of his funny, crazy and humble being... Trust me, I've been there, he'll get you flowing.
Dano is a multi-instrumentalist producer who, through his talent and sensitivity, succeeded in translating my inner musical universe and making it a reality. Not only is it a pleasure to work with someone so dedicated and professional, it is also incredibly satisfying to witness his musical, conceptual and sound contribution to every project on which he works on. He is, without a doubt, a true professional in all senses of the phrase.

Interview with Dano
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: Working with Mon Laferte and Ximena Mor , those two projects are the ones that have demanded the most out of myself than any other. With Mon Laferte i was the drummer / producer / recording engineer and Mixer. And with Ximena Mor i did a little bit of everything, song writing / producing / recording / mixing / and drumming... on both projects we worked with a bunch of extra talented people, without them it would have been imposible to make it.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Im working on three projects at the time, all of them are mixing stuff. Im getting myself into the ambisonics world because i have a strong feeling that all this 3D / 8D / 360 Audio culture is going to be the next thing in a few years, those concepts are all over the place, live shows, silent parties, sound installations, sound performances, movie theaters.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Yes there is.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both, i’m a big fan of Hybrid.. Why? Why not? If i stay open to the radical changes that our industry is passing through , i will always receive with open arms both the old and the new technologies just to prove to myself that everything can be acomplished.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: That we wont finish the project until both parts are proud and pleased with the result.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I love listening to new music, one of the most exciting moments of Mixing is when you hit Play for the first time and you don’t know what’s going to happen, those first 10 minutes are priceless.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Can you do it for less money? :) I absolutely can but what i always answer is : “ when you go and buy a chocolate to a candy shop you don’t ask to the clerk to lower the price on that chocolate, you went to pick that specific chocolate because you want that chocolate, and the price is what it is” Our rates are based on so many things other than “ i make great sounding records” ... they are based mostly on the cost we have to pay in order to have all the tools we need so that the clients choose us for “being” more professionals than the neighbor.. bur ironically , they don’t want to end up with a cheap sounding record, they want to sound PRO but paying like amateur.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That i can fix what the producer or the artist didn’t care at all to fix, our job is to enhance the brilliance of what happened during the recording session.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Are you happy with the production result? Are you happy with the way everything sounded during tracking process? What do you expect of me?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Try to engage with the provider, try to see if he understands what you need for your project, in some ways we have to put ourselves like consultants, in the end what matters is the song , nothing else.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: 1 Electric Guitar 1 Audio Interface 1 Computer 1 Microphone 1 Pair of Monitors
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: My career path has been up to the day a very easy and fun career. Since i realize this was what i wanted to do at a young age, i have never had second thoughts about doing this for a living. I grew up in a musical environment, all my family members were either musicians or singers, or song writers, or just music lovers and fans. Then i turned into drums when i was 8 years Old... and since that day the music has been the most important part of my day and my life.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I grew up listening to the most honest and human records ever, growing up during the 90s made me grab those sonic memories as blue prints for my later career, i don't like artificial sounding records, even with over processed music such as Prodigy or NIN there is this honest, organic, human aspect that make me gravitate towards, so when working on a project, i like to dig as much as i can to achieve that sonic identity.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I love being involved with the most crazy and mind blowing people that it is. I would love to work with Dave Grohl / Trent Reznor / Josh Homme / Kimbra / Jacob Collier / Snarky Puppy
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: As a producer keep distance, and bring to the table all the people that you think the project needs, there is no value in doing everything all by yourself.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I love working with Rock Artists, as well as independent artists, there is something special about that specific moment when you are a successful indie artist that i feel they just have this very powerful ambition ok making things happen for them that is really contagious for me. Plus the fact that once yo go big and become a Major Label Artist everything changes and all the important decisions are taken by more people.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is my Audio Engineering career, That has helped me to work faster and to be more productive on a project.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I think one of the most valuable assets that i have is the way i connect with artists, once i feel there is a friendly landscape already set , things will be much more easier, and that way i can throw my observations about the song, what i feel rather than what i hear. If i feel there’s something to fix on the arrangement i will try to push that idea to get it done, if i feel the song is missing one or more critical elements i will add them and show it to the artist to hear their opinions on it, but for the most part i’m always chasing a genuine feel of achievement, i want all the people involved on that song to feel absolutely happy of the result.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: The first thing i like to do is talk with the artist, know them, and understand them, try to understand why they contacted me in the first place. When producing it will depend on how much far does the artist want to take their track. And when mixing , i will first listen to the rough mix if there’s one. And then add that session to my mixing template and just let it go, just have to be ready for that energy strike and try to mix the song from a fan perspective.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I’m always constantly changing, because i feel when you find yourself in a comfortable position for a long time, then you stop pushing yourself to find new creative ways of do your job. I love working with Hybrid Setups. Im working with the WAVES LV1 System as a Summing Mixer, and using the Soundgrid Network i can do digital patches the way i need them whenever i need them. I work with Logic Pro X and Pro Tools as well. And i have some Outboard gear just to add to the summing chain and give my mixes that extra analogue feel and vibe.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Josh Homme, Butch Vig, Rick Rubin, Dr. Dre, Jacob Collier, Trent Reznor , Kevin Parker, Joe Baressi, Sylvia Massy, Residente, Omar Rodriguez, Visitante.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Nowadays i am working more as a Mixer and Producer . I just love the Mixing process, It’s where i feel i can take a song into the next level.
I was the Mixer or the Producer or the Mixer or in some cases de Dummer in this production
