Interview with Jamila Thompson

Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: To every song, I bring my absolute best performance. This usually requires many takes, however I am obsessed with producing the best sounding song possible. I really do care about each project just as much as my client does! I think that comes through my work.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: When recording demos, I first get a feel for the song by listening through a few times. I then start at the top of the track and work my way through. When writing, I like to listen to a reference song first to ensure I know which diction to go in, and as for my writing process, I start with the melody! Then later, I write the lyrics.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I use Logic Pro as my main DAW and currently record with a Blue Mic, this set-up has produced high quality vocals that my clients love!
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I love music in all genres, as each sound inspires me in different ways and keeps my creativity high. I have so much respect for all musicians and music production pros who lead in their specific niches. If I had to choose, I'd say old school music from the 60's and 70's is what really sparked my singing career.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: The most common types of work I provide for my clients are vocal demos for songs already written, including cover songs, and songwriting/performing hook features for artists.
