The words that I would describe my experience working with Larry would include: 'professional', 'great process'. 'thoughtful approach', 'wide array of techniques, percussion instruments and sounds', 'adaptable to try different variations to see what fits best.' It's been great to collaborate with Larry on our Epic Orchestral track.

First time working with Larry, and it was indeed a pleasure. The communication was top notch professional from start to finish, and most important, he gave the song the right percussive instruments that sat beautifully in the grove of the song. Thank you Larry, at Hand Percussion.

  15. Review by U-Nam S.

As James Brown as the hardest working man in the business… Larry is the hardest and fastest working man in the business of percussion!!! Larry is part of my “musical” family now… and my “go to” #1 percussion player! His timing is perfect (which is hard to find btw) and his knowledge and taste is fabulous! Looking forward to the next one!

  16. Review by U-Nam S.

And once again as usual my man Larry delivers!!! Always right on it!!! Even on original tunes where it’s most difficult sometimes to second guess what the artist has in my mind but Larry does and much more!!! One more song done and much more coming!!!

  19. Review by John T.

    A pleasure, as always.

Larry faithfully replicated the percussion my track already had, so it was easy to blend in with the rest. I'm always pleased with his additions of other instruments that add so much to the piece's texture.

Interview with HandPercussionTracks

  1. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  2. A: I pride myself on an extremely high quality recording system. I use an iMac 3.6GHz 8-core Intel Core i9. Neve and UA preamps, Maag EQ's and a gigantic selection of microphones that can handle anything percussion wise. Beyond that I use Mogami gold standard cabling, Apogee convertors and proper power conditioning. My instrument inventory is 700 + pieces currently. I also have a 5 TB Dropbox business account, which enables file retrieval at anytime for past and older session stems. My internet connection is an AT&T fiber connection at 1000 Mpbs. If you would like a complete microphone list please let me know. There is a partial one listed above in my recording services description.

  3. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  4. A: Ive been working in the recoding field since 1992. Thats what I set out to do and here I am.

  5. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  6. A: Ive been hired to play on more styles of music than I can list. Everything from DIY singer songwriter tracks to XBOX and Playstation games, film trailers, TV shows and more.

  7. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  8. A: Concentration, professionalism, time management and follow through. Not to mention a well-developed workflow that has been honed and perfected.

  9. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  10. A: I do recording jobs from the simple to extreme. Anything from a simple shaker track to a fully orchestrated percussion track. I have online sessions credentials ranging from the D.I.Y. artist to Walt Disney Studios.

  11. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  12. A: Give me as much info as you can. What do you want rhythmically? If you want a tambourine track, do you want a "jingly" sound or a dry sound. Do you have a specific pattern in mind? If they aren't sure I am perfectly comfortable trying out different ideas until the right vibe is found.

  13. Q: How would you describe your style?

  14. A: Simple when needed, aggressive when the times right. Play for the music.

  15. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  16. A: 100 % guarantee when you're happy my job is done.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: At times I will ask several questions, its a time saving method on my part. When people ask me "can you track a conga part in my choruses" ? I will try and focus in on the specifics. Quite often people are unsure, at that point I will offer several examples and let them pick what works best.

  19. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  20. A: I bring over thirty years of recording and musical experience. I play strictly for the song/project. Beyond that I have an incredibly good understanding of proximity effect, SPLm headroom and acoustics which results in amazing sounding tracks for your song.

  21. Q: What's your typical work process?

  22. A: Depends on the project. If someone wants a maraca track (for example) I typically ask a few questions. Do you want a mono or stereo track ? Do you want a mixture of natural room sound ? I don't have any one single process since I have to wear a lot of hats rhythmically.

  23. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  24. A: Anyone who is successful, unique and honest.
